I've now listened to the new Ben Folds album, Way to Normal, and I have to say I like it. It's more of a rock album than Songs for Silverman, with more fast songs. I particularly like "You Don't Know Me" (I've never really gotten into Regina Spektor, but her part in this song is good), "Bitch Went Nuts" (which has an old-school Five-era Ben vibe to it), and "Effington" (which explains the pun in the album title).
bethje went to a They Might Be Giants concert on Saturday, and bought the album by the opening band, Les Chauds Lapins. It's a group that performs French folk songs, led by TMBG's John Henry era TMBG backing band member Kurt Hoffman. I didn't go to the concert, but I DID listen to the album, and I thought it was pretty cool. The arrangements are heavy on ukelele and violin. Of course, I don't know any French, so I have no idea what the songs are actually about. English speakers tend to think that any singing in French sounds romantic. I wonder what the French think about singing in English.
