It's a melody played on a penny arcade

Anyway,
bethje and I saw Erin McKeown last night at the Tin Angel in Philadelphia. The opener was Sean Hayes, another card-carrying member of the Union of Forgettable Opening Acts (Solo Dudes With Guitars Division). His set was pretty short, and it didn't take long for Erin to come out, accompanied by a male keyboaridst and a female drummer. I actually quite liked the drumming, although whether it was because it was particularly good or because I was right on the side of the stage and able to view it much better than usual wasn't entirely clear. I'm guessing it was a combination of the two. Sitting quite near the stage also drove home just how small Erin is. I mean, I already knew that, but still. The set included stuff from all of her albums (and there are now four of them, not counting the rarities collection Monday Morning Cold), and was pretty cool. Afterwards, Beth bought a We Shall All Become Like Birds T-shirt, and got Erin to sign it. We had to wait for some annoying girl to stop yakking about how she finally managed to get her friend into Erin's music, though. It bugs me when people try to monopolize an artist's time after a show, and it happens all too often. While I've gotten David Lowery to sign things for me on two different occasions, I've never really talked to him, because someone else was talking his ear off both times.
Okay, I guess that's a good enough stopping point for now. I have more stuff to write about, but I think I'll save it for another post. After posting this, I should probably change my pants, so I can go pick up my dinner.
