I got [livejournal.com profile] bethje A Radical Recital, the new live Rasputina album, for her birthday. Oddly enough, as of the present time, I've listened to it and she hasn't. {g} I like the "strange and amazing comments" at the beginning of each song. There's something about Hitler having only one testicle, and a story about a national identification system where everyone will have a grain of rice embedded in their arm.

Earlier tonight (or last night, if you prefer), Beth and I went to the Build-A-Bear in the mall, and made a cat (the "Sassy Kitty" kind) for Beth's birthday present. Her name is Catsy, and we got her an overalls-type outfit (I believe it was called a "denim jumper" or something of the sort) and a pink collar to wear.

After that, we went to the Olive Garden for dinner. I had the four-cheese shrimp ravioli, which was very good. Most of the food I've had there is, though, so I'm not surprised.

Back at Beth's house, we watched Rosemary's Baby, which was better than The Omen, although it was somewhat slow-paced. It was an interesting story, but I have to wonder at how easily Rosemary's husband went along with his wife giving birth to the spawn of Satan. Sure, he got fame and fortune out of it, but you'd think he'd have been a little more concerned about the whole thing.

Finally, a survey )

Earlier tonight, [livejournal.com profile] bethje bought me dinner at Denny's for my birthday. My birthday is technically until tomorrow, but I'm going to work in the morning and then going back home, so we couldn't very well do anything together then. Anyway, I had the Meat Lovers' Scramble, which I think they might have gotten wrong, since I believe meat is supposed to be scrambled IN with the eggs. I didn't even think about this until I'd already eaten most of the food, though. The pancakes were good, but the ham wasn't so much. For dessert, I had the Caramel Apple Crisp.

After dinner, we went to Target, so Beth could buy cat treats. I wanted to buy some chapstick while I was there, because I always forget to get it, and then end up biting my lips and making them worse. It's a bad habit of mine. I couldn't find any chapstick except for the stuff at the register that was also sunblock, so I guess I'll have to buy some elsewhere. I'm sure they had other kinds at Target, but I don't know where they were. While we were in the store, I overheard some couple talking about a duck in the Christmas section. Their conversation went something like this:

WOMAN: It sings Christmas carols...It QUACKS Christmas carols.
MAN: That would drive me the fuck insane.
WOMAN: Well, I'm getting it!

And speaking of Christmas carols, at least one radio station in the area has already started playing nothing but Christmas music. We heard two or three different versions of "Sleigh Ride" while in the car. I would have thought they'd want to wait until at least Thanksgiving before doing that, but whatever.

Beth also gave me some birthday presents: the new three-disc Wizard of Oz DVD set, the book Lies My Teacher Told Me (which I hadn't asked for, but I'm interested in reading), and the Fastbacks album Zucker. I think it's cool that the DVD set includes a few of L. Frank Baum's silent films, but it omits The Patchwork Girl of Oz for some reason. Beth's mom gave me a shirt, and her Uncle John gave me the Dresden Dolls' self-titled album. They were all very nice gifts.
