1. So, it looks like Tony "America's Sidekick" Blair won another term as Prime Minister. Kind of surprising, considering that I got the impression not too many people like him. But then, I suppose I have to keep in mind that: 1) I don't know all that many British people, and 2) most Americans I know are anti-Bush, yet HE still won. (Also, considering the way things work in the United Kingdom, I guess people didn't actually vote for Blair himself, but rather for the Labour Party.) I don't exactly follow British politics (I have enough trouble with our own), but it really seems to me like the Bush administration is making a mess out of American foreign policy, so it's disconcerting to see a European leader go along with pretty much all of it.

2. This morning, I tried the Enormous Omelet Sandwich at Burger King. It was good, although I do have to wonder why it includes a sausage patty. It wasn't bad, but I would have preferred ham or something. Isn't it supposed to be like an omelette? (Actually, I had a sausage omelette once, at Bob Evans. It wasn't very good.)

3. To continue with my theme of asshole drivers from my last post, I had to make a left turn today to get to the expressway on-ramp. When I reached the turn, the light was green (rather than a green arrow), and people were coming the other way, so I stopped to let them pass. Apparently this really pissed off the guy behind me, who honked his horn, and then eventually went around me to make his own turn. (This was in a left turn lane, mind you, so it isn't like I was blocking the cars going straight or anything.) Now, I guess it's possible there was enough time for me to turn before the cars going the other way reached the intersection. In the absence of a green arrow on my side, though, don't they have the right of way?

4. I'm listening to the new Ben Folds album, Songs for Silverman. So far, it hasn't really grabbed me the way Rockin' the Suburbs did. Now THAT was a great album.

5. Yes, I do have some quiz results! Thanks for asking. )

6. Oh, I almost forgot. Yesterday was the forty-fifth birthday of John Flansburgh of They Might Be Giants.

In my ongoing series of posts on stupid bumper stickers (okay, I think this might only be my second post of the sort, but still), I'm going to mention one I saw in the mall parking lot today. It had a picture of the Twin Towers, all done up in American flag colors, and the caption "Never forget who started it." It also had a link to a website (www.whostartedit.com) that apparently doesn't exist anymore. When I searched for it, though, I came up with this. This guy actually had the same thought I did: contrary to its intentions, the sticker actually suggests it was the United States "who started it." There would certainly be some merit to that unintended argument, although I'm somewhat inclined to think that, in prolonged international conflicts, there isn't any clear indication as to "who started it." Usually that's lost in the mists of time, but both sides keep on fighting, without really knowing why beyond, "Hey, we have to get back at them for what they did to us!" But I digress.

Actually, I remember seeing that same sticker a few years ago (probably when that website was still active), and meaning to rant about it then. I don't think I ever did, though, so you're seeing my rant now.

At the library today, a lot of people returned books on Hitler and Napoleon. I guess some class was doing a paper on them, or something like that.

I'm 400% smart! )
