Why is such a big deal being made out of whether Scott Peterson should live or die? I know some people are totally against the death penalty, and while I don't agree with them, I can kind of see their arguments. If ANY people deserve to die, though, Peterson is among them. It doesn't matter whether or not he was a good guy in the past. Besides, what would be so great about living if you have to do it in jail with no chance of parole? Granted, I'm not in a position where my options come down to that and death, and maybe it wouldn't be so bad if I had a cell to myself, but still. There doesn't really seem to be any good reason to keep this guy alive, no matter what character witnesses have to say about his past.

Anyway, after dropping [livejournal.com profile] bethje off at school, I did a little shopping. I bought some stuff at Borders, but I didn't use the coupon I had. The coupon was for 25% off any one item, and, since all I bought was on the bargain tables, it wouldn't have really helped me. One of the things I bought was a mythology book for myself, because, apparently, I don't already have enough of these. {g} This one seems to contain at least most, if not all, of the Epic of Gilgamesh, which I had been meaning to read. Actually, I think I might have a copy of the Epic somewhere, but I don't know where, and I think it didn't have a cover anyway (not that that really matters when you're reading the text, but, well, nicer editions are generally better).

After my visit to Borders and a stop at a grocery store, I had some pizza, and then went into a music store that was playing Britney Spears songs, probably from that greatest hits album they were advertising on the door. I know it's pretty much old hat to say it in this day and age, but, well, Britney sucks. While I never liked her, I didn't really mind her back in the "Baby, One More Time" days. Since then, though, she's degenerated into such an over-the-top caricature of herself, and her songs have just gotten progressively worse. It doesn't help that she's a Bush supporter, and that she appears to lack a functioning brain. Also, while I guess I don't know this for sure, she seems fairly humorless, at least as far as her own image goes. I tend to think that, if you're going to pull off the slutty style Britney (or whoever it is who manufactures her image) is apparently going for, it has to be done with a certain degree of humor. Either that or a touch of class, which Britney obviously doesn't have. I'm not going to be all prudish and say skimpy clothes are the work of the Devil, but I don't think they're automatically sexy, either. So, yeah. Anyway, I heard both the Talking Heads' "Naive Melody" and a pretty cool song that the Flaming Lips did for the SpongeBob SquarePants movie on the car radio, so that helped to make up for the Spearsian garbage.

I think I've finished most of my Christmas shopping. I put in an order with Amazon last night, so I still have to wait for that to arrive. Aside from that, I think I mostly just have to get some small things, so I guess I'm in pretty good shape in that respect.
