Take a Kurdistand!
Mar. 1st, 2006 12:56 pmLast night,
bethje and I watched the HBO documentary Latin Kings: A Street Gang Story. It was pretty interesting. I'm somewhat surprised by how much the documentary makers were allowed to film. I get the impression that King Tone (former leader of the Kings, now incarcerated), especially, was arrogant enough to think he would actually come across well. I can't really understand the gang thing in general. Maybe it's because I'm a suburbanite.
I had a dream where I was washing the dishes and listening to They Might Be Giants. In the dream, I was half-asleep, and I kept hearing the wrong words to the songs. As usual, I can't remember what any of the alternate lyrics were. I DO remember that I was listening to the first disc of Then, and two of the songs I heard were "When It Rains It Snows" and "The Famous Polka." I really wish I could recall more of what comes up in my dreams, so I could see if it's any good under more conscious conditions. I remember I once dreamed of the phrase "5000 orchards and merry salt," which I think must have been derived from the title of the Ben Folds Five song "One Angry Dwarf And 200 Solemn Faces." Just the title, though, as I don't think I'd actually heard the song itself at that point. Then there was the time I dreamed of a couplet something along the lines of:
I just jumped a total stranger
What did he do? Bathe in light/anarchy?
When I was researching Leonardo da Vinci back in my junior year of college, I came across a similar poem that Leonardo had dreamed up. I think my own dream-poem was from my senior year, so maybe I had Leonardo's on the mind. Who knows?
I'd say most of that is fairly accurate, especially the part about not wanting to be told when I'm overreacting. Scratch the thing about being able to pick up other people's feelings, though. I'm horrible at that.

Date: 2006-03-01 11:36 pm (UTC)The main thing is, yeah, isn't it amazing the poetry your subconscious can write? I had a dream a few weeks ago where one of the main plot points involved all this REALLY FANTASTIC poetry that of course I can't in the slightest remember now that I've woken up. Or, then that I've woken up. Since it happened a few weeks ago.
