Yesterday,
bethje and I watched Urban Legend. Yeah, I know it's not a holiday-related movie, but it was next on our Netflix queue, and there WAS a guy in a Santa suit at a frat party. Anyway, I thought it was a pretty neat concept for a movie.
That evening, we went through Beth's extensive collection of tapes of old Christmas episodes and specials. We had to skip a lot of stuff because of time constraints, but the things we DID watch included A Claymation Christmas, which I'd been hoping to see again. I have to wonder whether any of the Claymation stuff is out on DVD. Beth says there was an Easter special, and I remember a "documentary" on the rise to fame of the California Raisins. I know I thought that one was funny when I was a kid, but about all I can remember it now was that there was this grapefruit who was supposed to be the guy the Raisins kicked out of the group before they got famous, and he kept singing "I Write The Songs."
Speaking of crazy stuff from the eighties, we also saw a Beavis and Butt-Head Christmas episode that included a clip from a Max Headroom video. Now THERE was a really weird advertising campaign.
After watching TV, Beth and I exchanged one gift each. Her presents for me hadn't all arrived yet, and while mine for her had, we decided we'd open the rest the next time I come over after Christmas. The gift I got from her was Lies Across America, another book by James Loewen, author of Lies My Teacher Told Me.
I got
countblastula's end-of-the-year mix CD's in the mail, so I'm listening to those now. I hope people get my mix CD's soon.
And finally, happy holidays to anyone reading this!

Date: 2005-12-23 08:13 pm (UTC)I was so inexplicably terrified of the California Raisins when I was little. They really creeped me out for some reason, and still do.

I have a commercial I downloaded off of retrojunk.com with Max in it. I think it was a New Coke commercial.
