'Tis the season
Nov. 26th, 2005 05:20 pmYesterday was Black Friday, but I didn't do any shopping. It's too bad, really. I mean, I could have been trampled or pepper sprayed at Wal-Mart! Who would want to miss out on that?
Instead, I stayed at
bethje's house for most of the day, doing such things as using the computer, eating leftovers, reading, and watching TV. We saw part of VH1's I Love the Holidays, which was a cool idea, but very oddly arranged. They'd switch from talking about something associated with Christmas to a Halloween institution, and then back to a December holiday again. They didn't seem to cover any holidays from earlier in the year than October, but I'm not sure if that's because I didn't watch it from the beginning, or they're planning another special for holidays from earlier in the year, or they just couldn't think of anything to say about the earlier days.
Today, my grandparents came to visit, and we went out to eat at Max & Erma's. I'd never been there before, but it's basically another one of those places with crazy crap on the walls. I had the chicken fingers, which were good.
My brother gave me a Circuit City gift card for my birthday, so I'll probably use that soon. Also, my mom made me a spicecake, but I haven't eaten any of it yet.
I have to autograph a bunch of limited edition Oziana plates and send them on to the next person in line, but I don't have to pay for it. Besides, that hopefully means the issue containing my first published story is going to be coming out soon.
I've tried to redo the colors of my journal for the holiday season, but I don't think the thing ended up looking particularly festive. Yeah, I know nobody but me ever even sees my journal colors, but I'd still appreciate any advice anyone might want to give.

I don't know if it's partly my monitor, but I think the green is a little too dark and the red is a little too bright.

Yeah, you're definitely right about the green. I'm not going to change it this minute, but I will soon.

Date: 2005-11-27 12:09 am (UTC)I made sure to get something yesterday, because, after all, it WAS Buy Nothing Day. So I got some CDs for a buck each, and my mom's xmas gift.
And, yeah-- that show was weird. THought they'd be doing, like, one ep. per holiday, like they do with the other ones and years and suchlike.

Date: 2005-11-27 05:02 pm (UTC)Ah! Great description! I've always wondered if there was a word for those places, like "something-style restaurants," but "places with crazy crap on the walls" will do. I went to Max and Erma's the day I interviewed at the children's museum five and a half years ago, with my sister and my best friend, while we were on our way to see Ringo Starr, but he got laryngitis and cancelled the show, and the waitress thought Angie was our mom, and then we went to the art festival even though it was raining, and anyway it was a great adventure as you see so I always feel fondly toward Max and Erma's. Also I have a picture of Maggie with a moose head behind her from there. Anyway, just felt like sharing.
Street signs? Indoors? Whatever!
Date: 2005-11-27 06:40 pm (UTC)Thanks, but I didn't make it up myself. In one of my favorite Simpsons episodes, Moe turns his bar into such a restaurant, and advertises it with: "If you like good food, good fun, and a whole lot of crazy crap on the walls, then come on down to Uncle Moe's Family Feedbag."
