So, a few things I've been listening to (and watching) recently:
1. New XTC songs! Just click on "Apple Box Downloads," and sign up (I don't think it matters what your PIN is). One of them is a Colin Moulding song, which is pretty cool. The Andy Partridge song is better, but it's good to know Colin is still contributing stuff.
2. Thanks in part to
3x1minus1, I checked out some stuff by Amy Miles, the member of The Last Car I previously knew nothing about. I find myself liking the song "Kill To Know" quite a bit. It isn't much like the songs The Last Car did; I sort of get the impression that Chris Anderson did a lot of the songwriting for that group, since they did a fair amount of songs with amusing takes on mundane things, which Muckafurgason also did pretty often. That's not necessarily an accurate conclusion, though. But I digress. "Kill To Know" and "Heavy Packer" are available as free downloads on Amy's site, but for some reason, I can't play them in iTunes. They play fine on Winamp, though. Weird. For some reason, the opening to "Kill To Know" kind of reminds me of Doolittle-era Pixies. I think it's just because it opens with a bassline, which I'm sure millions of songs do, but that's what I thought of. Also, David Wain directed a video for the song.
3. Speaking of videos, I watched the ones for Frank Black's "Headache" and "Dog Gone" tonight. Some parts of the "Headache" video kind of remind of They Might Be Giants' "Ana Ng" video, which I guess isn't TOO surprising, since they were both directed by Adam Bernstein. I wish Frank (or whoever it is who owns the rights to the videos) would come out with a video compilation. I remember seeing the "Men In Black" video in streaming format a few years ago, and it had Frank making a peanut butter sandwich. I think that would have to be one of the greatest music video moments of all time.
Too bad I didn't LIKE kindergarten much. I could never cut it at arts and crafts.
And hey, everyone (except those of you who aren't citizens of the United States) remember to vote tomorrow! I'm planning on doing it, even though I think the only positions on my ballot are local offices for which people usually run unopposed.

| Kindergartener -------------------- |
| "Inner child?" you ask, "Is that like having a baby?" You are your inner child. And it grants you simple, honest emotions which can, ironically, make you feel more mature. On the other hand, you are decidedly isolated in an Adult's world. Being childlike has an unnecessarily bad reputation, but - remember from childhood - there are both good and bad children. |

Date: 2005-11-08 05:28 pm (UTC)That person might have had a DIFFERENT meaning of "XTC" in mind. It bugs me that drug culture stole "XTC." Much more so than how Australia and HBO stole "Oz." Anyway, it's cool that it reminded you of me, even though I'm hardly XTC Fan Number One.
i love how you always link things in your entries. that's so awesome.
Thanks. I guess the principle is that, if someone starts reading at a particular entry and thinks, "Hey, who are these Their Maybe Giants that he's going on about?", they can click the link and see. I have to wonder how many people actually use the links, though. Whether or not I follow a link in someone else's entry usually depends on how well they've sold it, combined with my mood at the time, and whether or not I'm in a hurry.

3. THat would be awesome. I've seen the one Flans did (Los Angeles), which was awesome, and I'd like to see me up "headache". Well, pretty much alla'em, but still. Frank Black totally needs a DVD comp. Speaking of which, have you picked up "Sellout" yet? Been meaning to, but I haven't.

Date: 2005-11-08 05:21 pm (UTC)3. I'll probably get "Sellout" eventually, although I tend to be less excited by concert footage than by music video collections (or actually GOING to a concert, but that goes without saying).

Date: 2005-11-08 05:24 pm (UTC)3. Yeah -- I know what you mean. Same way with Live Records, really, but it's still pretty interesting to see. But yeah -- always been a bigger fan of Music Video. There are instances where I've got video comps of bands I'm more lukewarm on. Just because, well, I love music video, at least as an idea (there are a lot of lousy videos, after all).
