So, yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] bethje and I were all set to go over to Beth's aunt's house, when I found out that one of my tires was flat. It turns out that I had run over a nail at some point. Fortunately, Beth's cousin-in-law Ronnie was able to pull out the nail and patch the tire. I'll need to get a new tire soon, though, and I'm hoping to combine it with the checkup and oil change I need anyway. Are there any service places that do all of those things? I like the service station where I usually get my oil changed, because they give you a free car wash and don't try to sell me stuff I don't need, but they don't do tires or brakes.

It looks like I'm going to have to drive a lot within the week, what with the trip up to New York on Saturday. I had also forgotten about Election Day next week, which is going to further complicate my usual weekly schedule.

Anyway, Beth had made a Freddy Krueger outfit for her dog Dewey. There are some pictures here. We walked him around Beth's aunt's neighborhood for a little bit, but not as long as we had originally intended, thanks to that flat tire. And it was hard to see his costume anyway, since it was dark outside. I wore my knight costume from a few years ago, which is kind of tacky, but I paid so much for it that I wanted to get some more use out of it.

After that, I took Beth to class, and played Phantasy Star while waiting for her. I bought the landspeeder on the planet Motavia, and used it to reach a cave, but I'm not quite sure what I'm supposed to do there.

Beth's class ended a little before 9, and then we went out to eat at Denny's. We sat at a booth next to a group of loud teenagers who used "gay" for practically every other word. Rather than my usual Moons Over My Hammy, I had the Meat Lovers' Scramble, which was good. It came with three pancakes, which were very filling.

Later, we went back to Beth's house, and watched the original Nightmare on Elm Street with audio commentary, which was pretty interesting. It's too bad that Robert Englund wasn't on the commentary, though. Then I went to bed, and, well, that's pretty much all I have to say for now.

Every time I go into Dennys the waitress sits me next to a booth teenagers. Next time she pulls it I'm going to ask her politely if I can sit somewhere else. It just stems from being made fun of all my life.

Yeah, I'll have to admit to being somewhat disturbed by teenagers myself. While I realize that I'm now much older than them and probably have nothing to fear from them, it still sometimes makes me think back to high school, which I hated. I think most people who weren't very well-liked as teenagers have no desire to be reminded of that period of their lives.

This isn't to say that I dislike ALL teenagers, by any means. Mostly just large groups of annoying or mean ones.

About a year or so, [livejournal.com profile] bethje, her cousin Dorothea, and I went to eat at a place called the Phily Dinner. Not only was the food pretty lousy, but the waitress placed us at a table next to the loudest, most obnoxious group of kids I'd ever encountered in a public place. Eventually, we asked if we could sit somewhere else, but that barely helped, considering how loud they were.

It always makes me sad to think how much I used that word and "fag" all the time during about 5th-8th grade. I think the main defense was/is that it really has nothing to do with homosexuality, but that it just means "stupid" like the word "retarded". I still find myself saying that one sometimes, after trying to quit so many times.
