wow, i thought there were only 2 people in belle & sebastian. and aw, i miss moxy fruvous.

I really don't know that much about the members of B&S. I know Stuart Murdoch is the main guy, and that their former members include Stuart David and Isobel Campbell. When I saw them live, there were a lot of people on stage, but only about three of them sang.

There's no one in the band named Belle or Sebastian. From what I've read, they're two characters who are sort of the imaginary writers of the band's songs. The names came from an old kids' show, but the characters' identities have nothing to do with the show.

Was there ever an official reason given for why Früvous broke up? I know Jian had that TV show, but I don't know whether he was offered that before or after the break-up.

i figured it was a disney reference. belle from beauty and the beast, and sebastian from the little mermaid. but what you said sounds cooler.

The television series and series of novels that it's based on are discussed here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belle_et_S%C3%A9bastien). They both predate The Little Mermaid by some time.

Why would the Disney Belle and Sebastian be teamed up, anyway? Belle hangs out with live household implements, not singing Jamaican crabs!

Not to put too fine a point on it, but my mind made the exact same connection as obsessical's did. It's an evil Disney thing I am sure.

Well, my mind immediately made that connection, too, but then the other part of my mind went "Wait, THAT'S not from the same movie," and then I actually read something about the band and heard the bit about the old children's TV show... so I guess it has more to do with what you're familiar with.
