Avalanche or roadblock
Sep. 12th, 2005 05:05 pmWhile on my way to work today, I came across a closed road. Now, closed roads are irritating anyway, but what particularly bothered me about this one was that it had a sign up that said "local traffic only." I figured that I WAS local traffic, since I was only going a few miles up the road. The traffic lady wouldn't let me through, though, because I didn't have an orange sticker. I tried to argue that the sign didn't say anything about an orange sticker (actually, it had an orange rectangle on it, which was probably meant to symbolize the sticker, but this was something that people who didn't already have the stickers obviously wouldn't be able to understand), but she wasn't having it. Fortunately, I knew another way, so I didn't lose too much time. Still, while I understand why they sometimes have to close roads, it's the partial closures that particularly bug me. A lot of the time, whether or not you can get through depends on the attitude of the person directing traffic. And often, there will be signs up about a road being closed, and then it actually won't be. Besides, if they can let through people with orange stickers, the road is presumably driveable. I mean, I'm assuming an orange sticker doesn't mean you have a flying car. I guess the point is to reduce the amount of traffic, but it's still annoying.
I'm wondering if I should see the Decemberists in Philadelphia next month. I mean, I like them, and I've never seen them live before, so I guess it would make sense to go, right?
If anyone still wants to guess the books from this post, go ahead and do it soon. I'll probably put the answers up tomorrow or Wednesday.

Date: 2005-09-12 11:15 pm (UTC)I think you should go see the Decemberists! I think I should also go see them! If it's cheap and you aren't doing anything else that day, you should go. I bet it'll be fun.
I don't really know any of the books, sorry :/

Date: 2005-09-14 04:30 am (UTC)The base price on the Decemberists tickets is $15, although I don't think it's possible to buy tickets for the base price anymore (which really makes me wonder why they don't just raise the prices outright and forget all the bullshit about "service charges," but I've ranted about that enough in the past).
