Well, that was pretty easy. I went to jury duty today, and I'd only been there about three hours when the judge came in to say the case had been thrown out. And I just called to make sure I don't have to come in tomorrow, and turns out I don't. That's a relief. I mean, I wouldn't mind serving on a jury at some point, but this really wasn't a good time for me.
After being dismissed from jury duty, I stopped by a used CD shop, and saw that they had a used copy of Frank Black's Honeycomb, which was kind of sad. I mean, that's a great album! I didn't buy anything at the store. Some of their used CD's cost around $10, which is probably more than I'd ever pay for a used CD, unless it were out of print or otherwise practically impossible to find new. I've paid more than that for used They Might Be Giants EP's, but those were kind of a special case.
Afterwards, I had lunch at a pizza place, and walked by a store that had a greeting card with the Frogman (from the Oz books) on it. The store was closed, or I probably would have bought that card. It's not every day you see Oz memorabilia (especially Oz BOOK memorabilia) in a random shop window. Then I went to the library to renew Night Watch, and I checked out The Colour of Magic while I was at it. Terry Pratchett is actually going to be in Philadelphia next week, and I plan to go see him there, if at all possible.
Speaking of book signings, Gregory Maguire, the author of Wicked, is supposed to be in my area towards the end of the month. I didn't particularly like Wicked, but there's a chance I'll go see him anyway, just for something to do. He'll be promoting the sequel, Son of a Witch, which I might or might not read. I really found Wicked to be interminably long and boring in spots, and Son of a Witch might well turn out to be similar in that respect. I am kind of interested to know how Maguire envisions post-Wizard Oz, though (my guess: very differently from how it is in the books {g}).
Okay, that's not very accurate. And how those job questions never have anything resembling "librarian"?

Date: 2005-09-06 11:10 pm (UTC)The record store I go to in Doylestown has used cds for a LOT of money! I got Misc T there on cd, and I paid 15 bucks for it! But, my friend told me the cases are empty,a nd you just take it to the front and they give you a new one, but they really just put the used cd in the case. so it was all sticky and gross, and i'm really anal about the quality of my tmbg cds, so I was all dissapointed, but too pissed to try and return it or anything.
I did, however, buy the pink album on record for ten bucks. Go fig.

Date: 2005-09-07 04:03 pm (UTC)I've been to a used CD store where you'd bring the case up and they'd give you the CD. I remember one time when they couldn't find the CD, and had to call me a few days later when they'd finally managed to locate it. The CD's at that store all cost $5 or less, though.
Once you found out the CD wasn't new, couldn't you have just said you didn't want it? Or did they make you pay before you realized that?
