Pain and Suffering

Well, I finally bit the bullet (not literally) and saw a doctor about my ear infection. I hadn't been to a doctor since over three years ago, when I still on a parent's insurance plan. Unfortunately, my health seems to have been getting worse as of late, and I'm not just talking about my ear here. Anyway, apparently the water isn't in there anymore, which isn't what I had thought. I figured it was still in there, but in so deep that it wouldn't come out, and that it needed to drain. What the doctor said was that it was really swollen, and she gave me antibiotics and eardrops. If these eardrops don't work, there's a more expensive kind that she said would definitely work. I'm hoping it doesn't come to that, though. Between the visit and the medicine, it cost me $129.99. I guess I know now that, if I go swimming again, I should wear earplugs.

I think the worst thing about the whole ear business is that it gets in the way of my living a normal life. All I did for pretty much all day yesterday was lie in bed, while having a bunch of weird dreams related to my pain. I also had no appetite, and had nothing to eat for about 48 hours. I just recently broke the fast with some yogurt. Since I have several things to do this week, including attending a concert on Wednesday night, I hope the medicine stops my pain from getting in the way.

One thing I DID manage to do on Saturday night was to watch the last episode of Bullshit!'s third season. It was about how people always want the best of everything. It cast a fairly wide net, talking about meals at expensive restaurants, consumer electronics, TV show awards, and more. There were some good points made, and several funny parts. One ongoing test involved people being served really crappy food at a fancy restaurant, with the guy who had played a water steward back in Season 1 making up all kinds of lies about the food. It was amusing, and he went a bit overboard sometimes, like when he said the potatoes were hydroponically grown by graduate students in Oregon. I don't know that they really proved a lot, but the point that it's ridiculous to always look for the best was a good one.

I also watched the paperboy episode of Stella. It was pretty funny. I liked the rap they did towards the end.

Believe me, I know how you feel. My back has really been getting in the way of me leading my normal life. I can't do anything lately, and it's getting worse. It wont be too easy to fix, either.

I keep wanting to watch Penn and Teller since you keep talking about it :)

Yeah, it IS unfair, but what are you going to do? It doesn't hurt as much now, but the pain comes and goes. I'm hoping that, since I'm taking prescription medicine, it'll mostly be going from now on.

Bullshit! is a good show. There have been some episodes I didn't like much, but most of them encourage critical thinking and not taking everything at face value, which are good things. It's pretty funny, too.
