[livejournal.com profile] countblastula did some half-year lists, so I figured I might as well follow suit, despite the fact I haven't actually experienced much in the way of new media so far.

Albums

From 2005:

1. Laura Cantrell - Humming by the Flowered Vine
2. Tori Amos - The Beekeeper
3. The Decemberists - Picaresque
4. They Might Be Giants - Here Come the ABCs
5. Ben Folds - Songs for Silverman
6. Hypnotic Clambake - Mayonnaise
7. Johnny Hickman - Palmhenge

Stuff I want to hear that's either been released in 2005, or is scheduled to be:

Frank Black - Honeycomb (due to be released this month)
Neko Case - ? (no title yet, as far as I know)
Carolyn Mark - Just Married
Erin McKeown - We Will Become Like Birds
Andy Partridge - Fuzzy Warbles Volume 7 and 8 (I assume these are still supposed to come out this year, although I haven't heard anything about them as of late.)
The Posies - Every Kind of Light

Albums from earlier years that I first heard in 2005:

1. Sgt. Major - Rich, Creamery Butter
2. A few Fastbacks albums
3. Blur - Think Tank

Concerts

I've seen:

1. David Lowery and Johnny Hickman (opener: The Hackensaw Boys)
2. Ben Folds (opener: Corn Mo)
3. Tori Amos (opener: Matt Nathanson)
4. TMBG (in-store)

Later in the year, I'm planning to see Ben, Tori, and TMBG again. Not that much variety, is there? {g}

Movies

New this year (or still at the theaters this year, anyway):

1. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
2. Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith
3. Phantom of the Opera
4. The Ring Two

Upcoming or already-released stuff I might want to see:

Batman Begins
Fantastic Four
The Devil's Rejects
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Old stuff I saw for the first time this year:

A lot, at least as far as my movie-watching goes. I'm just going to list what I've written about seeing this year, in reverse chronological order.

Pink Flamingos, Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, Memento, Se7en, A Dirty Shame, Hellraiser 2, Godfather 2, 2001, Strangeland, Bend It Like Beckham, I Spit on Your Grave, Cecil B. Demented, Last House on the Left, The Hills Have Eyes, Phantasm, Requiem for a Dream, A Streetcar Named Desire, Teen Wolf, The Godfather

Books

The only new book I can recall reading this was Sherwood Smith's The Emerald Wand of Oz. As for other books either published or due to be published in 2005, I'm definitely getting Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Zim Greenleaf of Oz. I'm not sure what else. I like to read, but I really don't keep abreast of what's being published nowadays.

Older books that I first read this year:

1. Ring, by Koji Suzuki
2. Monopoly: The Story Behind the World's Best-Selling Game, by Rod Kennedy, Jr., and Jim Waltzer
3. The Moorchild, by Eloise Jarvis McGraw
4. The Witch Queen of Oz, by Philip John Lewin

AND it teaches the important fact that wolves are good at basketball, which I totally never would have known otherwise.
