Beth and I both had a three-day weekend for Veterans' Day, even though neither of us are veterans. I probably say that every year. Really, the holiday schedule where I work is a bit out of balance, as I suppose are most of them, because so many holidays are bunched up in November. You don't think we could use them in June or August? Personally, I'm not sure why New Year's is more important than Halloween. I get Election Day, Veterans' Day, and Thanksgiving off, but not that day after Thanksgiving. I'm taking that off anyway, though, because that's going to be a busy weekend. This past weekend was fairly busy, too, but in a different way. On Saturday, we went out to eat at the Olive Garden in Secaucus, which was quite crowded. Beth had originally thought of walking on the Marsh Trail, but it was cold that day and they close at sundown, which is really early at this time of year. We did drive by where we used to live, although I couldn't remember how to get there. Even back then, I had some problems navigating the area, as Route 3 just runs through the middle of town.

I'm not sure I've been to Greenpoint, a part of Brooklyn even farther out of the way than Williamsburg, but I went there twice in the past few days. On Sunday, I attended a small Zoe Boekbinder show there, and passed a building called Zoe's on the way there and back, which seemed appropriate.

I'd never seen her play solo, but I did see her eleven years ago in Vermillion Lies, the band she was in with her sister Kim. Her solo stuff tends to be pretty sad, but often cautiously optimistic as well. I talked to Zoe a little after the show, although I was pretty nervous about it, and we got a picture together.

On Sunday, I had to get up early to take my car in for state inspection, although I didn't stay up. One disadvantage to no longer keeping the car in New Jersey is that there, you only have to get an inspection every other year, and it's free. Anyway, that evening, Beth and I both went to Greenpoint to see Dave's band, Dead on a Friday.

Before the show, we had pizza with his sister Rachel. And I guess that's pretty much it.
