Thank You for Being a Friend
May. 13th, 2019 06:39 pmBeth's Uncle John visited us in Brooklyn last week, so we had a lot of activities planned for him. Our cat Reagan loves him, and he shared his food with her, so she'll probably miss him. On Sunday, we saw Golden Girls Live in Times Square. This is a drag show created by Peter and John Mac-Schaefer, who I believe started out fifteen years ago reenacting actual episodes, but later made up their own. John played Dorothy and Peter all three other main characters. I assume they've done the show with other actors before so they could have everyone on stage at once, but for the regular New York performances it's just the two of them. Peter also has a regular show where he performs as Judy Garland. Uncle John is a fan of The Golden Girls, and while I never watched it that much, I still thought the stage show was funny. Our original plan for Monday was to go up to the observation deck at the Freedom Tower, but the deal Beth had heard about was over, so we didn't. We did, however, take the Staten Island Ferry, which none of us but Beth had done before.

I bought a pretzel at the terminal on Staten Island, but that's all we did there. I'm kind of scared of the place, which I've heard is predominantly Republican. I've driven across it a fair number of times, though. Anyway, we went to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden on Tuesday. The Japanese Hill and Pond Garden is open again, but there were hardly any fish in the pond. What happened to them?

Beth went with Uncle John to Coney Island on Wednesday, but I sat that one out. Our last event was on Thursday, when we walked around Green-Wood Cemetery a bit. It's a big place, and we didn't spend a lot of time there that time. I believe this is the first time I saw this face sculpture.

The place is pretty full of life for a graveyard, with lots of plants and such. We went back down to New Jersey on Friday, and had Mother's Day dinner with Beth's mom on Saturday.
