I was told by [livejournal.com profile] obsessical to list my six current favorite songs. So let's see here:

Andy Partridge - Blue Beret
Frank Black and the Catholics - Pan American Highway
Fastbacks - Old Address Of The Unknown
New Pornographers - Letter From An Occupant
Magnetic Fields - Papa Was A Rodeo
Minus 5 - Retrieval Of You

These are basically just songs I've been enjoying a lot as of late. I tried not to overthink it.

And I think I'm supposed to pass this off to six other people, so I'll go with [livejournal.com profile] bethje, [livejournal.com profile] colleenanne, [livejournal.com profile] listenesmerelda, [livejournal.com profile] lozenger8, [livejournal.com profile] rockinlibrarian, and [livejournal.com profile] daveychu. If you're not interested, or you've already done it and I've forgotten, that's fine. And if I didn't name you and you want to do it anyway, that's cool, too.

Last night, [livejournal.com profile] bethje and I watched Strangeland. I've never been a fan of Dee Snider, but I thought the movie was good. I thought there was an interesting twist in that Captain Howdy (clever reference there) might have ended up reforming if it hadn't been for the vengeful townspeople. It's also interesting that Robert Englund has been on both sides of a mob of angry parents. I'm inclined to believe that was intentional.

By the way, if anyone thinks my brief comments on movies are spoiling your possible future enjoyment, let me know, and I'll start putting them behind cuts. I generally don't give anything major away, and I have no idea whether anyone reading this would want to see these films anyway, but you never know what some people will consider to be spoilers.

Some people's journals ([livejournal.com profile] revme's and [livejournal.com profile] lozenger8's, for instance) haven't been showing up correctly on Netscape. When I try to read the comments, the user pictures overlap the text. I don't usually use Netscape, but I do for LiveJournal on Beth's computer, so we can both stay signed on at the same time. I don't know if it's a problem with Netscape in general or just with this particular computer, but that might be something you'd want to check out.

I was a dumbass today, and left the sandwich I made for work at Beth's house. I guess I'll bring it to work tomorrow. If I remember.

Hmm... I'm not doing the meme because I can't think of six favourite songs at the moment.

And my user picture overlaps my text? Could it be because of my style - or is it on your style?

I just checked, and it looks like we're both using Flexible Squares as our theme. It renders right for me in Firefox (which is odd, since it's based off Netscape, or, well, same source, different evolutions, or whatever). I'm poking around [livejournal.com profile] s2flexisquares right now, and it doesn't look like the Netscape thing is a Known Issue. Although I guess there was some bug that was similar in IE?

It's also strange, because I just listened to Blue Beret an hour or two ago. Wiggy!

Anyway, my six, at least through Most Plays In iTunes:

No Children-The Mountain Goats
Rock 'n' Roll Pest Control-The Young Fresh Fellows
Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah-Pogues
If You Could Save Yourself (You'd Save Us All)-Ween
Your Truth, Our Lies-The Young Fresh Fellows
The Paw Paw Negro Blowtorch-Brian Eno

Weird, though. How annoying is that bug? Like does it overlap a good chunk of stuff, or just a little? Wiggy, though. And kind of annoying, as I like that style (aside from modifications I'd like to make that I mentioned in my last post).

I don't recall having trouble with the comments on your journal in IE. In Netscape, the picture usually covers about two lines of text. It just shows up right on top.

"Blue Beret" was a song that I'd heard of long before the Fuzzy Warbles series started coming out, and I thought it sounded cool and really wanted to hear it. When I finally did hear it, I liked it, but it's been pretty recently that it's really started to stick with me. I listened to it several times in a row earlier this week. When Andy has unused demos like that, I have to wonder why he releases stuff like "Strange Tales, Strange Tails" as actual B-sides. Then again, maybe I'm thinking of two very different eras of XTC history. It's hard to keep track of when rarities were written and recorded.

Hm, weird, though. It's strange that it's Netscapethat's having issues, since Firefox is fine with it. (Haven't checked in normal Mozilla, though, but I'd assume it'd be the same.) Wiggy.

I had the same thing with Blue Beret -- I'd always wanted to hear it, and then I think I might have got it on a bootleg first? But yeah, I kinda dig it; it's not my favorite, and it doesn't click with me like it does you, but it's a keen enough song. But yeah, I think that that was ~Oranges & Lemons era, maybe Skylarkingish, and "Strange Tales" was... hm. I think Black Sea. I think it was on the Respectable Street single? Could be wrong, though, but I think it's in there somewhere, that era.

...and I _like_ "Strange Tales" a lot. Even though I know Andy doesn't. (IIRC, that and "Officer Blue" are his two picks for "worst XTC songs ever released"... Maaaybe "officer blue", but I can think of worse, but "Strange Tales" is awesome.)

Yeah, I think Andy mentioned that he put his and Colin's worst songs together on Rag and Bone Buffet. I don't think either of them is the Absolute Worst, but I can think of plenty of Fuzzy Warbles tracks that I like a lot better than either one. But I guess it's not my job to decide what songs the band would release.

That's fair (although I'm sure no one would know if they weren't actually your favorites {g}).

LOL

Good point.

How about "I'm not doing the meme because I don't particularly want to, so there :p"

w00t! Huzzah for completing the "tag"...thing. or whatever.

people keep telling me that frank black and/or the pixies are very good, but for some reason, i never get around to listening to them. i think i have like, one of their songs on a cd my friend made, (i believe it's 'gigantic') but i always forget to listen to it. i should do that tonight...

"Gigantic" is a very good song. It's not really hugely representative, since it's a Kim Deal song, so it's closer to the Breeders, but Kim was a very important part of the Pixies. Frank Black just wrote most of the songs, though. But they were both very very good at the whole "being awesome" thing.

"Where Is My Mind?" and "Monkey Gone To Heaven" are Pixies songs that people generally seem to like. My personal favorite is "Velouria." Frank solo doesn't seem to appeal to as much of the general populace as the Pixies, but he has some great songs. I was actually into Frank first.

Wuhhh.. uhh... six songs? That's a tough one. It should be six movies. That would be better.

Let's see...
The Fleetwoods - "Mr. Blue"
Rasputina - "Trenchmouth"
Simple Minds - "Don't You Forget About Me"
The Monkees/Mike Nesmith - "St. Matthew"
TMBG - "Now Is Strange"
Tori Amos - "Marys of the Sea"

Okay, not all of those are current favorites. It's a lie. They're favorites in some way or another, though.

I installed Firefox last week. Feel free to use it.

What are your six current favorite movies, then? (I'll bet I could guess at least one.)

I tried using Firefox this morning, but it gave me some nonsense about the default profile already being in use, and wouldn't load.
