Just a game

I'm apparently not very good at Bejeweled 2, one of the games at the MSN Gaming Zone. I've still only reached a one-star skill level, with 30,880 points. There are some neat new aspects to the game that the original Bejeweled didn't have, but I think I liked the jewels randomly disappearing once you reached a certain point better than actually progressing to a new level.

I can't get Bespelled to load at all anymore. That's a shame, since it's a good game.

Speaking of online games that won't load, is whatsbetter.com totally down now, or what? I haven't been able to access it in months, and I miss comparing totally unrelated things.

For some time now, Winamp has been my MP3 player of choice. I decided to try using iTunes for that purpose as of last night, though, and I think the fact that it keeps track of what songs you've played is pretty cool. Rating songs is also fun, although I kind of wish they'd let you rank things on a scale of ten stars instead of five.

This is shaping up to be another day when I really don't do anything. I guess I have a lot of those, since I only work part-time, but I draw a distinction between the days when I do something that's at least slightly productive (reading, writing, watching a movie, cleaning out my car, washing dishes), and when I really don't do ANYTHING aside from eating, sleeping, and playing computer games. Fridays are often the latter sort for me.

Hmm...never seen that one. In fact, I don't think I'd heard of it before now.

Was this the most boring journal entry I've ever written, or what? Maybe I should wait until I actually have something significant to write about before posting anything, but I feel somewhat obligated to post more frequently than that.

By the way, I know nobody generally sees my settings for this journal, but I changed the colors anyway. It's basically one of the default settings, but with yellow instead of the pinkish-red color that was originally used for the background of the entries. I'm wondering if the yellow might be too bright, though. I know I'm usually the only one who sees it, but I have trouble trusting my own judgment nonetheless.

The fact that Whatsbetter is dead makes me very sad. I loved Whatsbetter. As long as we still have Guess the Dictator or Sit-Com Character, though...

Also, I have become a fan of iTunes. I didn't like the windows implementation, but I love the Mac one. Although perhaps if I went back to the windows one for some reason, I'd like it more, now that I've had time to get used to it.

Smart Playlists are really fun to play with, too. That's what I was using a few days ago to tweak shuffles around so it'd be more good songs.

I'm using the Windows version, and I like it pretty well, but I still haven't worked out all the nuances. Last night, it was eating up my system resources when adding files to the library, but that could just be my computer.

I don't know if this has anything to do with your situation, but if you already have the mp3 files on your computer and import them into iTunes (rather than ripping directly from a CD), and you don't uncheck the "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" option in the preferences, iTunes will create a second copy of the file in its own music folder, rather than just a pointer to your original file wherever you had it. So that would obviously slow it down when it's initially building its library, and waste hard disk space as well, since you end up having two of everything in two different places.

I second the love for Smart Playlists—that and the fact that navigating my collection is so easy are my favorite things about iTunes.

It looks like that box is already unchecked, but some of the files still seem to be in there twice. It's no big deal, though. I'm guessing it was just a lot of stuff to add to the library at once.

That dictator/sitcom character game is pretty fun, but I don't really know enough details about most dictators and sitcom characters to play it for all that long.

You need to watch more TV sitcoms/read up on Dictators, then!

I just like the split. It's amusing.
