Don't they know it's the end of the lane?
May. 5th, 2005 05:18 pm1. This morning, a woman thought
bethje and I looked like we were related, because we looked similar. I honestly would never have thought that we DID look anything alike. Apparently we have similar smiles.
2. Also this morning, someone on Fox News said something about how we in the "Age of Terrorism." So do they think terrorism is a recent development, or what?
3. Maybe I'm the only one, but I get annoyed when two lanes are about to merge into one, and someone insists on driving right next to me in the other lane. It also bugs me when I know a lane is going to end, and I actually try to be nice and let someone in from the ending lane, and they don't take advantage of it. I mean, they're not really doing anything wrong, but I'm someone who likes to prepare for such things as soon as possible, so as to avoid merging at the last minute. Perhaps there are occasions when I get over too soon, but isn't that better than holding up traffic later on, or making some kind of desperate last-minute maneuver?
4. I was trying to think of CDs I want that have either been released recently or will be released in the near future. I just ordered Johnny Hickman's album, along with the debut CD by Sgt. Major. There's a new Frank Black album coming out in July, and Neko Case apparently has a new one coming out this year (although Beth will probably buy that). I should probably also listen to Beth's copy of the new Ben Folds album before seeing him in concert. Oh, and speaking of upcoming releases, is the Season 6 box set for The Simpsons coming out anytime soon?
5. Remember when I mentioned that a local music store was advertising an upcoming XTC release, and I was wondering what it was? You probably don't, and I'm not going to bother hunting up the entry, but trust me, it happened. Well, it was released on Monday, and it was yet another collection of early singles (covering everything up through 1985, I believe). I suspected it would be another pointless attempt by Virgin to milk the XTC material they still had the rights to, and I guess I was right.
6.
Too bad I loathe that term. Okay, maybe "loathe" is a bit strong, but I think it's kind of silly. I didn't even know anyone used it anymore. But, hey, if people are still using "politically correct," I guess they're still using "post-modern," too. Moe Szyslak says it means "weird for the sake of weird," but Moe thinks he knows a lot more than Moe knows.
Anyway, there were a lot of questions on that quiz where I was on the fence about the answer, or could see it both ways.

You scored as Postmodernist. Postmodernism is the belief in complete open interpretation. You see the universe as a collection of information with varying ways of putting it together. There is no absolute truth for you; even the most hardened facts are open to interpretation. Meaning relies on context and even the language you use to describe things should be subject to analysis.

Date: 2005-05-06 02:32 am (UTC)I'd be a little interested to hear the new Ben Folds, but I've always been kind of iffy on him/BFF, so, I dunno. He has a tendency to write some really good songs and also some songs that I tend to find just really annoying. Although -- as an aside, an amusing thing; when record shopping last week, I kept seeing copies of the self-titled BFF album that had, on the little white sticker that runs across the top of the case (you know what I mean, right?), it kept calling it a "Best Of". Rather than just a Self-Titled Album. Which was kinda funny.
And yeah; I saw The Compact XTC on the New Release Table at Best Buy when I was down there. For a bit, I thought it was just some random re-issue on the table, but I flipped it over and it turns out it's on Caroline (who I think are also distributing the US reissues/remasters?), which was sorta odd. Since, well, Compact seems like a really odd choice to reissue, what with most of the US XTC hits being Skylarking-on.

Date: 2005-05-06 06:07 pm (UTC)Right near the Pennsylvania/New Jersey border, there's a place where Route 322 goes along with I-95 for a short while, before branching off again. Coming into PA, this is no big deal; it just means getting into the right lane of 95, and then exiting almost immediately. Coming into NJ, though, you have to cross at least two lanes of traffic to get back to 322. Needless to say, I don't go into NJ that way unless I pretty much have to.
