Yes, that's definitely my favorite one
Apr. 14th, 2005 05:02 pmThis game has now been up for about a week, so I suppose if anyone other than the two people who have already participated had wanted to do so, they would have done so by now. I'm a little disappointed with the turnout, but oh well. Here are the answers:
1. They Might Be Giants
Song: It's Not My Birthday, as I mentioned in a few other recent posts, and
bethje answered correctly. "Birdhouse In Your Soul" (
countblastula's guess) also ranks quite highly as far as TMBG songs go. (But then, who DOESN'T love that one?)
Album: Lincoln, as
countblastula guessed. It's not as consistent as Apollo 18, or as well-produced as John Henry, but I still love it.
2. XTC
Song: It's really hard for me to pick an overall favorite song by them, so there would have been several possible answers. "Burning With Optimism's Flames," which was mentioned by
bethje is indeed a favorite of mine. I also have a great fondness for "Helicopter," "Senses Working Overtime," "Gold," "1000 Umbrellas," "Season Cycle," "Wrapped In Grey," "The Wheel And The Maypole," and, well, too many others to mention.
Album: Skylarking. Possibly my favorite album of all time.
3. Tori Amos
Song: The one I consider my absolute favorite, as mentioned by
bethje, is "Black Dove (January)."
Album: Under the Pink
4. Pixies
Song: Velouria.
bethje got it right.
Album: Bossanova
5. Camper Van Beethoven
Song: If pressed for a favorite, I might say "She Divines Water," although I also love "We Love You," "June," and probably some others I'm forgetting just now.
Album: Probably Our Beloved Revolutionary Sweetheart, although their self-titled third album comes close.
6. Laura Cantrell
Song: I don't know my absolute favorite, but my top three would be "Cellar Door," "Churches Off The Interstate," and "All The Same To You."
Album: Well, she only really has two (although a new one is apparently coming out later this year), and I prefer Not the Tremblin' Kind to When the Roses Bloom Again.
7. Young Fresh Fellows
Song: Here's another one on which I'm not totally sure, but I might go with "Hang Out Right" or "Sittin' On A Pitchfork."
bethje's guess of "When The Girls Get Here" is also one I like a lot.
Album: Probably This One's for the Ladies
8. Hypnotic Clambake
Song: The Philosopher.
bethje got it right.
Album: Kent the Zen Master
9. Moxy Früvous
Song: BJ Don't Cry. Again,
bethje had the right answer.
Album: Bargainville
10. Frank Black
Song: I'd probably say "Bullet." "Headache" (
bethje's guess) is also an excellent one, though.
Album: Teenager of the Year
11. Neko Case
Song: Guided By Wire, as
bethje guessed
Album: Furnace Room Lullaby
12. Minus 5
Song: I might say either "Retrieval Of You" or "Queen's Head." Probably the former.
Album: I Don't Know Who I Am
13. Tom Lehrer
Song: The Vatican Rag
Album: That Was the Year That Was.
countblastula got both the song and the album.
14. Cracker
Song: Happy Birthday To Me.
bethje answered it correctly.
Album: Forever
15. Posies
Song: I might say "Under Easy," although it was "Ironing Tuesdays" that really made me take notice of the band.
Album: Their first one, Failure. I don't think it has a weak track.
Now you can guess what my LEAST favorite song and album by each band is. :P No, seriously, I don't know that I really have a least favorite song by most of my favorite artists, although I could probably name a least favorite album by each one, if pressed to it.
