According to this, they were originally going to air a Simpsons episode today where Bart was transferred to a Catholic school, but they cancelled it because of the Pope's death, and are showing a rerun. While I can understand the reasoning for cancelling the new episode, I have to wonder why they didn't just bump up an episode they were planning on showing later in the season. I also have to wonder when they're going to show the one they were supposed to show today. I hope it's not another case like the Futurama episode "A Tale of Two Santas," where they ended up showing it, like, two years after they were originally supposed to (and that wasn't even in response to an actual event). So, yeah, no new Simpsons tonight, I guess.

Earlier this afternoon, I cut all the branches off the Christmas tree. (Yeah, we took a long time in getting rid of it.) I also attempted the battle against the Master Monster Tamer in Dragon Warrior Monsters again, but to no avail. That guy's monsters are tough. I guess that's why he's the Master. {g}

a tale of two santas is one good episode.

i don't understand why bart being transferred to a catholic school would require cancellation because of the pope. was the pope in the episode?

I have no idea. Maybe he was, or maybe they just thought it wasn't a good time to make jokes about Catholicism.

I have to admit that's kind of annoying. My guess is that they didn't want to have to reschedule future weeks, but you'd think they could have pulled out one of the hold-over episodes for the next season, and just swap them. (Especially since SNPP doesn't seem to have "Father, Son & Holy Guest Star" scheduled again at all...) But oh well.

.. Still, seems odd they picked this one to run -- didn't it just air not too long ago? You'd think they'd have gone with one of the earlier ones from this season.

Yeah, I guess they're waiting to reschedule it until the Pope's death is no longer on people's minds, and they don't want to predict exactly when that will be. I hope they end up showing it fairly soon, though, since I tend to like episodes with jokes about religion in them.

I remember there being rumors shortly after September 11th that they would NEVER show "The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson" again, and I'm guessing that turned out to be untrue. (Actually, I haven't seen that episode since then, but I don't watch the syndicated episodes all that often nowadays. I assume it'll be on the DVD when it comes out in three more years or whatever, though.)

Well, what with them replaying an episode from this season pretty much every Sunday as of late, they probably weren't left with all that many episodes that hadn't already been shown twice.

Yep, they were lying. Actually, relatively soon, too. I think I saw it maaaybe a year after 9/11. Maybe a little sooner, even. I was surprised and overjoyed, despite not really even caring for that episode very much.

But yeah, you're right about the re-runs. Bleh. Oh well, I suppose this year will have one of those Special Summer Simpsons!!!111 episode things that they do every couple years.

Yeah, I think the last time they had a summer episode was in between Seasons 9 and 10, when they showed "Lard of the Dance." So it's been a while since they've done that, but that could easily end up being what happens. (Of course, Fox now seems to be on a "summer" schedule from late May through early November.)
