I went ahead and ordered the Here Come the ABC’s CD and DVD from Amazon, and they say the estimated shipping date is the 22nd. I realize that it might well ship before this, and that there’s no real hurry anyway, but why such a late estimate? Is it just me, or is Amazon constantly getting slower?

On a different (but still music-related) note, when I have to put the information about a CD in Musicmatch, I’ll often mix up the “album” and “artist” fields. I think it’s in the reverse order from what I would expect, and that confuses me.

I’m participating in a mix CD swap over at the Frank Black Forum, and here’s the tracklist I’m going with:

Stream Running Over – Apples in Stereo
Under Easy – Posies
Trouble Sleeping – Fastbacks
Churches Off The Interstate – Laura Cantrell
Fuzzy Slippers – Carolyn Mark and the Room-Mates
Burning With Optimism’s Flames – XTC
The Philosopher – Hypnotic Clambake
I Am The Cancer – Sloan
It’s Not My Birthday – They Might Be Giants
Happy Birthday To Me – Cracker
Retrieval Of You – Minus 5
La Petite Mort – Erin McKeown
Brainiac’s Daughter – Dukes of Stratosphear
Reprehensible – TMBG
Guided By Wire – Neko Case and Her Boyfriends
Atari – Muckafurgason
Sun Goes Gold – Sugarplastic
Chick Habit – April March
Sittin’ On A Pitchfork – Young Fresh Fellows
BJ Don’t Cry – Moxy Früvous
We Love You – Camper Van Beethoven
Meaningless – Magnetic Fields
Blow – Lincoln
Complicated Game – XTC

I hope people will like it. I sometimes get the idea that most of the people on that forum listen to “harder” stuff than I generally do. My musical tastes are generally more in the eccentric-but-upbeat category (if that IS a category). Oh, well. It doesn’t really matter. Since I’m burning copies of this CD anyway, if anyone who reads this wants a copy (or even a different mix, for that matter), let me know.

That was the same shipping estimate Amazon gave me, and I ordered it last week. I thought it was because I was doing the "spend $25 and get free shipping" thing.

I know you already made me a mix CD but I'm always up for more.

Maybe, but I thought the delay there was in the package actually getting to you AFTER they shipped it, not in shipping it in the first place.

Was there anything on the CD I gave you that you particularly liked? There are only a few bands/artists I really enjoy that weren't represented on there (or that you didn't already know before that).

Well, the thing actually got here today, for whatever that's worth.

I'll have to get back to you on the CD cos I'm actually not sure where it is right now (my room is a total wreck).

I got the free super saver shipping and I believe I was originally given that ship date as well, but it actually arrived today. (Whoo-hoo!) So, I think those estimates are sneaky lies: they act extra-pessimistic so you'll think they're really great when your stuff comes earlier than you expected.

Of course in this case, since the CD/DVD actually only came out on Tuesday, I am genuinely impressed with the speed it got to me.

yeah, it told me mine would come this friday, but it came yesterday. Setting you up for mild disapointment, then totally surprising you by granting your happiness earlier. Way to go Amazon.

Quite possibly. They're last-possible-time estimates, I suppose. On the other hand, the stuff I ordered for Christmas really WASN'T shipped until the estimated date, or possibly even AFTER that.

They _finally_ shipped my copy. Despite having my order in for a couple weeks. So, hopefully it'll show up soon. But yeah -- I'm growing increasingly sick of Amazon. (Not so much with the foreignzons, though. They typically have pretty good prices and get here relatively quickly.) If it hadn't have been for the special bonus content, I would have ordered my copies elsewhere. (Stupid being an obsessive fan...)

Also, that looks like a cool mix. And I'm glad to see "Retrieval Of You" on there, as that's one of my all-time favorite Minus 5 songs.

I always hear about people getting pre-orders BEFORE the official release date, but I've never been that lucky. Not that I pre-order that much, but everything I have arrived a few days AFTER the release date.

And I'm glad to see "Retrieval Of You" on there, as that's one of my all-time favorite Minus 5 songs.

That was the first song that really stood out for me on Down with Wilco.

I dunno, when not going through Amazon, I usually have decent luck with getting pre-orders early, or at least on-around the release date. Sometimes I get them a week early, even (like when I ordered Schizopolis from Digital Eyes, they sent it to me at _least_ a week early.), so it's all a matter of luck and when they get them from the distributor I guess. I've only once gotten something in a meat-space store early, and that was when Costco put the Coen Bros' Barton Fink and Miller's Crossing DVDs out early. That was sweet.
