Snow Job

I thought I was done having a difficult time maneuvering through snow, but it took me forever to pull into a parking space at my own house. I'm not even sure why my car kept getting stuck. I guess my tires have next to no traction. I hate snow.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] revme for the mix CD, which I'm listening to right now. Thanks also for the interesting poster in which the CD was wrapped. I guess it's a movie poster that was painted on. Certainly more creative than anything I've sent with mix CDs.

I don't have that much to say right now, really. I just wanted to get those two things out of the way. I'm waiting for my pot pie to finish cooking, and I have to leave for work in about half an hour.

EDIT: I thought of a question that has nothing to do with the rest of the entry, but that I don't think merits a new entry. Do headphones come with varying lengths of cord, and is there any way to find this out without actually unwrapping them? It would help to have some long headphones for use with my computer.

I hope the rest of my tax stuff comes soon. I want to try to get that out of the way early this year.

You can definitely get headphones with different cord lengths—I have a pair with a cord a couple feet long and another pair with a cord that's at least 15 feet. I think the longer ones mostly come with the larger headphones styles, where there's a big padded cup that completely covers your ear. It should say somewhere on the package how long the cord is. They also make headphone extension cords, if you have headphones you already like and don't want to buy a whole new set.

Well, considering how quickly my headphones usually wear out, I think I would want to invest in a new pair, even though I already have a working pair. I guess I should find out how long the cord needs to be before doing any shopping.

Yep, that's what it is, heh! Everyone got a poster of some sort. At least of the first batch, because now I'm out of posters and am trying to figure out something equivalent to send for the next batch. (The closest I can think of now is some old music magazines I got from NYC when I went to the CMJ New Music Marathon...)

As for headphones; yep -- they should typically have the cord length on the package. It depends on what kind of ones you want. I've got a over-the-ear style of Jensens that I got free from eMusic (they had this deal when they started where if you bought anything they'd send you some brand new headphones that were the over-the-ear style. I'd been interested in trying those, having glasses and all, and most headphones aren't terribly comfortable on glasses, so I bought an mp3 of "Up My Ass" by King Missile, and got the headfo. As such, I don't know the model # or anything, but those are very good headphones, really, much better than you'd expect Free to be. And, they actually are comfortable with the glasses and all).

If you want to make an investment in Good Headphones, I've got a pair of Sonys that are great; they're the Big Padded Cup Kind. Great sound and the _only_ non-behind-the-ear-style that don't hurt after a while a'cause of my glasses. The down side? They were 100 bucks (actually, I think I got them for 80 at Guitar Center). But they last and are good. Cord length on both of these is actually really pretty long. The longer headphones too, typically have the curled type of cord (but not always -- if you hate those, you can shop around. And feel free to ask the clerk, especially if you go to a Music Store type situation. Maybe even pretend you're a DJ...8)

Anyway, if you want, I can give you the model number of the Sonys; I don't know if you'd want to drop 100 bucks on headphones, though. They do last, but it's a big upfront investment. (But yeah -- sometimes at Guitar Center type places, they'll even let you test them, so you can hear the results/see how they fit on yer head/etc. Not always though, but, yeah.)

Yeah, I couldn't really justify spending that much on headphones, even if they WOULD last a long time, hence saving me money in the long run. I don't really even use them that much. Usually just when someone else is watching TV and I want to listen to music (my computer is in the same room with the TV). I'll probably just look for some cheap ones with a long cord. Maybe I'll do that tomorrow. I need to get a printer USB cable, too.

Yeah -- in that case, I'd recommend the Jensens. I've had them since... jeez, 1998? 1999? and those are still working basically perfectly and came with the long cord. If it weren't for my ultra-nice ones, they'd basically be my favorite headphones I've used. I don't know the model number or anything, but I see comparable ones at (west-coast chain store, sorta like K-Mart) Fred Meyer's all the time.

Granted, I don't know if those ones are still good just because I haven't needed to buy new ones, heh. But I'd assume. And they're cheap/good, so, yeah.
