You know, I was just thinking about the poor donkey when we read that part at Mass today, because (it was Mark's version) it was described as a colt that had never been ridden (ridden? rode? No, rode is wrong, but why does ridden LOOK wrong?), and I wondered if that was because it WAS still a colt and all and too small still to handle a full-grown man Messiah or not. Maybe two such donkeys could have shared/redistributed the weight better. The disciples put their cloaks on the donkey, so maybe they could have strung them over TWO donkeys and made a sort of carrying sling thing for both to handle-- that would have been easier on the poor colt. OR he sat on one and put his feet on the other, slightly redistributing the weight. But then, I don't know anything about the carrying capacity of very young donkeys, so probably I have no reason to feel sorry for it.
