Okay, tonight's Simpsons episode wasn't terrible, but it does seem like they've pretty much used up every possible plot. This one had some clear similarities with "Lisa's Rival," and a few elements of the most recent Futurama movie thrown in. The meeting of the two families for dinner was all right, as was the segment at Clam-Elot, but the only line that really made me laugh was when Lisa suggested that the restaurant failed because no one wanted to drive to the middle of the woods for clams. Speaking of which, I have to wonder who those girls were that Lenny and Carl were taking to Clam-Elot. And even though Groundskeeper Willy claimed to have no last name in "My Fair Laddy," here we find out that it at least was MacDougall. It's kind of sad when these random trivia bits are the most interesting parts of the show, but that seems to be the way of it nowadays. The American Dad episode was pretty good, though, especially the parts with the spa detective.

Ugh, they used up every possible plot ten seasons ago, in my estimation. But I'm just an irascible old humbug when it comes to The Simpsons.

I didn't really like that one; I think it had a germ, but it just didn't quite seem to hang together. Like, Marge being all "You can't see Whatshername anymore" seemed a little... weird, as it's not like she was a bad influence or anything, just imaginative. And, same with the ending of Lisa being all "We shouldn't hang out anymore", it just seemed really, um, "Well, we gotsta get back to the Status Quo."

Apparently it was based on Heavenly Creatures, though, which explains the kinda weird almost-lesbianish-hinting relationship between Lisa and Whatshername, but also probably why it didn't quite work, since that's about a murder plot to kill one of their mothers, and they probably couldn't do that. Even though something like that would have made a LOT more sense as to why Marge/Lisa would be into breaking the friendship off. Rather than just that the other girl happens to imagine a lot.

Yeah, there really didn't seem to be any HARM coming out of their imaginary world until Marge starting forbidding the two girls to see each other. So maybe the moral is that kids SHOULD be allowed to imagine?
