Pinheads and Patriots
Sep. 11th, 2008 02:40 pmHey, it's Patriot Day, isn't it? Doesn't whoever came up with that name realize that nothing good ever contains the word "patriot"? I mean, Patriot Missiles, the PATRIOT Act, that movie The Patriot...okay, I've never actually SEEN that movie, but I've never been too keen on Mel Gibson, even before he started with his Elders of Zion crap. I threw up in my twelfth grade English class while watching a video of Mel talking about Hamlet. Sure, you can say that was because of what I ate for breakfast, but I prefer to think of it as Mel's fault. And I'm sure he'd find a way to blame the Jews. But I digress.
Okay, on a more important note, if September 11th is going to be a holiday, it should be a day of solemn remembrance for the people who died in the terrorist attack, right? So why give it a name that doesn't reflect that, but instead suggests, "Yay, America!" Isn't that rather disrespectful to the victims?
Also, I have to wonder about the usage of the phrase "never forget." Are the 2001 attacks something that anyone is LIKELY to forget? Why not save that for something important that people probably wouldn't remember otherwise?

Date: 2008-09-13 01:00 am (UTC)I get the impression that they were more devoted to their religion than to any particular country (which is one reason why calling them "Islamofascists" doesn't make sense).
Also I remember you mentioning sometime before about how if anything Pearl Harbor Day ought to be remembered more
I don't remember saying that, but it's possible I did.
