I wasn't quite sure how January 6th could be the twelfth day of Christmas when the first day was, of course, December 25th. It just didn't add up. Apparently, though, the count starts on the EVENING of the 25th. If we adopted that system here in the United States, it would be awfully disappointing to the kids eager to open their presents on the morning of the 25th. Oh, well. Regardless of when the twelfth day officially falls, I want my twelve drummers drumming! Maybe one of them will be David Lovering, and he'll electrify pickles for my amusement. If I get Phil Collins, though, I'll probably return him.

And on the subject of music, here's a meme that I got from [livejournal.com profile] revme:

1. How did you get into 31?
Future Bible Heroes - I was into the Magnetic Fields first, and checked out Stephin Merritt's other projects. Honestly, the Heroes are probably my least favorite of Merritt's array of bands, but they're still fun.

2. What was the first song you ever heard by 22?
Erin McKeown - I can't remember for sure. I saw her live with Jian Ghomeshi shortly after Moxy Früvous disbanded, and I don't know what the first of her songs that they played was. I know she did both "La Petite Mort" and "Blackbirds" at some point in the set, though.

3. What's your favourite lyric by 41?
Herman's Hermits - "And when you're old and grey, you will remember what they said/That two girls are too many, three's a crowd, and four you're dead."

4. What is your favourite album by 49?
The Dukes of Stratosphear - They really only have the one, although it seems to be common opinion that the 25 O'Clock EP is better than the Psonic Psunspot LP. I don't know that I agree, though. While the LP sticks less closely to the psychedelic theme, it's still excellent. Of course, the CD has both the EP and the LP, so I don't usually think of them as different entities anyway.

5. How many albums by 13 do you own?
Rasputina - None, but [livejournal.com profile] bethje has all of them.

6. What is your favourite song by 50?
Fountains of Wayne - Hmm, maybe "Valley Winter Song"?

7. Is there a song by 4 that makes you sad?
Fastbacks - Not that I can think of. Their songs are generally pretty fun, at least in my opinion.

8. What is your least favourite song by 15?
The Gothic Archies - Well, I don't have their EP, so that means I only have the songs on The Tragic Treasury to choose from. I guess I'd say "In The Reptile Room."

9. What is your favourite song by 5?
Sloan - Don't You Believe A Word

10. Is there a song by 6 that makes you happy?
The Ditty Bops - Several of them do. If I had to name one in particular, I'd say "Wishful Thinking."

11. What is your favourite album by 40?
Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins - They only have the one. Is this going to happen every time I get a question about albums?

12. What is your favourite song by 10?
"Weird Al" Yankovic - Offhand, I think I'd say "Dog Eat Dog."

13. What is a good memory you have involving 33?
Neko Case and Her Boyfriends - The first time Beth and I saw them live was enjoyable. Neko always puts on a great show, more in a friendly, down-to-Earth (I'm not so keen on that expression, but I can't think of a better one) kind of way than the Big Production way of some other bands that I like.

14. What is your favourite song by 37?
Frank Black Francis - Well, if you're only counting songs he released under that composite name, I guess I'd say the demo for "Caribou." If I can count anything written by the same guy, then "Velouria." Actually, there IS a version of "Velouria" on Frank Black Francis, but it's one of those weird Two Pale Boys mixes, and I don't much care for most of those.

15. Is there a song by 19 that makes you happy?
The Young Fresh Fellows - Yeah, I'd go with "Celebration" for that.

16. How many times have you seen 24 live?
Frank Black and the Catholics - Once

17. What is the first song you heard by 23?
The Simpsons - They're not really a band, you know. Technically, though, I guess it would have to be Bart singing "Jingle Bells" way back in the first Christmas special.

18. What is your favourite album by 11?
Tori Amos - My general choice would be Under the Pink, with Boys for Pele in second place. Pele would probably take the top spot if it didn't have so many forgettable songs towards the end.

19. Who is your favourite member of 1?
They Might Be Giants - I have to admit I'm more of a Linnell fan, although not by that much.

20. How many times have you seen 14 live?
The Flaming Lips - None, and I don't have any particular desire to do so, although maybe I would if they came to my area and the show didn't cost too much.

21. Do you have any good memories involving 45?
Da Vinci's Notebook - The time I went with Beth and her cousin Craig to see them at Appel Farm was pretty cool, even if the rest of that day wasn't.

22. What is your favourite song by 16?
Hypnotic Clambake - Probably "The Philosopher"

23. What is the first song you heard by 47?
Spice Girls - I'm not sure there's anyone whose answer for this question wouldn't be "Wannabe."

24. What is your favourite album by 3?
The Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs

25. What is your favourite song by 18?
Camper Van Beethoven - Maybe "We Love You," although "She Divines Water" and "June" are also pretty far up there.

26. What is the first song you heard by 38?
The Corn Sisters - This Little Light Of Mine

27. What is your favourite lyric that 21 has sung?
Belle and Sebastian - This is tough, but one particular lyric that comes to mind is, "And so I gave myself to God/There was a pregnant pause before he said 'okay.'" Maybe that's because I remember [livejournal.com profile] revme mentioning it as a line he liked.

28. What is your favourite song by 2?
XTC - Burning With Optimism's Flames

29. What is the first song you heard by 32?
Cracker - Possibly "Low," since it was a big hit back in the day, but I can't actually remember hearing it before getting the album. The first song I heard by them that I knew was their work was "Teen Angst (What The World Needs Now)."

30. What is your favourite song by 8?
Rilo Kiley - The Execution Of All Things

31. How many times have you seen 17 live?
The Minus 5 - Only once, but I'd love to see them again. They put on a great show.

32. Is there a song by 44 that makes you happy?
Scott McCaughey - I could use the same answer that I did for 15. I don't know that I would say My Chartreuse Opinion (the only album he released under his own name) is happy per se, although it is fun. I guess "Big Deal" would come the closest.

33. What is your favourite album by 12?
Frank Black - Teenager of the Year

34. What is the worst song by 29?
Neko Case - Maybe her cover of "This Little Light," from The Tigers Have Spoken

35. What was the first song you heard by 34?
Kelly Hogan - Not sure. The only one I can specifically remember from the first time I saw her was "Canadian Boy" (not sure if that's the real title), which I don't believe was ever released.

36. What is your favourite album by 42?
Laura Cantrell - Not the Tremblin' Kind

37. How many times have you seen 39 live?
Franz Ferdinand - None, but I'd like to at some point, assuming they're still a going concern. I haven't heard of their doing anything recently.

38. What is your favourite album by 36?
Pixies - Bossanova

39. What is the first song you heard by 28?
Carolyn Mark - I know ONE of the first was "Don't Come Over Baby," but I'm not sure whether it was the very first. That was at the same concert as 35, actually.

40. What is your favourite album by 35?
April March - Paris in April
