Let's get away from it all
Oct. 4th, 2006 07:05 pmI was thinking the other day about how long it's been since I've really taken a trip. Not that I ever took them that often in my childhood, but there were times when I'd go somewhere with one or the other of my parents. We went to Maine a few times, for instance. I kind of miss it, and it might be nice to take a trip WITHOUT being crammed in the car with my siblings and everybody's stuff. It's not exactly financially feasible at this point, though. The catch is that, if I were to get a full-time job, I'd have more money, but also less time in which to do things like trip-taking. Besides, I'm sure it would be difficult for me to be away from home (and the computer) for several days.
Also, since I received such a positive reaction to sharing my monkey story a little while ago, here's some other stuff I wrote when I was in second grade. These tales come from my January 1986 journal.
The Ocean is a home of many animals. Fish, eels, sharks, and
WHALES!
Way over in the middle of the Ocean is Whale Island. Narwhale lives near this island.
One day, Narwhale had a party. But, Mr. Mister Shark tried to eat them. He chased them and rattled the walls! He ate confetti! He threw cakes! Mr. Eel slapped him. It didn't stop him! He knocked Righty over! He even upset Brian! He pulled off Brian's flipper!
Mr. Mister Shark chased them all to Whale Island and up The Palm Tree!
But, Narwhale managed to get out! He swam into an underwater cave and turned into Super-Whale! He came out and threw Mr. Mister Shark onto land! Mr. Mister Shark dried and died!
(My teacher replied to the last sentence with "in that order?". And I can't say I remember who Righty and Brian were, although I assume they were other sea creatures. There are illustrations, but these characters aren't pictured.)
And this there's this really short one:
Dictionary Bear lives in the dictionary of The Bee Of The Sea right near the word bear. The Bee Of The Sea and The Fly Of The Sky were scared! Caesar Spider was under their bed and Dictionary Bear in their dictionary.
Dictionary Bear's life is not an easy one. He has trouble getting his dinner.
(At this point, I go right into a totally unrelated story about dinosaurs, to which the teacher said, "Super imaginative. What ever happened to the Bee of the Sea and the Fly of the Sky?" My answer? "Dictionary Bear caught them!" She really should have learned to stop asking me for resolutions to my stories, as they pretty much always resulted in someone's death.)
And finally, here's a quiz result:

Which Obscure Clue Character are YOU?!

You are Captain Brown! Featured in 1986's Super Cluedo Challenge, you were one of the FIRST new characters added to the Cluedo mythos in 40 years! A stoic old sea salt, you tell like it is, and are full of old fashioned sensibility. You faded into obscurity, however, and paved the way for two later male characters using a brown color scheme.

Wow, Clue (or "Cluedo," to any of you non-American types) is a game I haven't played in ages. Actually, it's been too long since I've played ANY board games. My dad was the one I'd usually play them with, and now he lives nowhere near me.
bethje really doesn't like games at all.
