I was feeling pretty groggy yesterday, probably because I had so many interruptions to my sleep the night before. I got better sleep last night, but I still feel kind of tired.

I'm not sure how they'd determine that based on only four questions, but who am I to question the accuracy of a Blogthings quiz? {g}

I've been going through some of my old papers that had been stored in boxes. I came across a lot of stuff from when I was a kid, including all the drawings I did of Winnie-the-Pooh, theme parks, planets, Word Munchers, and Garbage Pail Kids. None of the drawings are very good, but I'm holding on to some of them for sentimental reasons. I also have a lot of lists of things that I made, including chapters for stories I intended to write. In one of them, my class (most of my stories from elementary school are first-person accounts, and some of them include my classmates as well) was going to visit the planet Hooshka Booshka. The chapters I listed for that one are:

1. The Great Wall of Kooska
2. Meet the Megapede
3. Death Desert Island
4. Going to Kooska City
5. The Kooskan Capitol Building
6. Delinto and Crud Copy
7. Crud Copy's Clue
8. The Beaches of the River Oceanus
9. The Lungfish
10. The Forest of Fire
11. The Golden Man
12. Oceanus Beach's Salesbear
13. The Mapmaker's Cave
14. Visit to Weirdwood Gardens
15. The United Nations Building
16. Cleanland and Strongland
17. Travels in Halloweenville
18. A Night in Grossville
19. The Witch of Halloween City
20. The Adventure Cave of Halloweenville
21. Treasure of the Rabbit Indians
22. FFC Transit
23. Captured by the Rina Ronans
24. Back to Kooska City
25. The Kooskans and the Rina Ronans

I can actually remember what was going to happen in some of these chapters, as well as the origin of Crud Copy. And Weirdwood Gardens was obviously named after Longwood Gardens, where I would later spend some time volunteering in the library. The other chapter list I found was for something called "The Adventures of Eezg." If I remember correctly, Eezg was some kind of slug-like creature who was born on Mars to parents from the Andromeda Galaxy, and became a hero who travelled through space and time. I don't think I'd planned out any of the story beyond this, but I did have this list of chapters:

1. The Birth of Eezg on Mars
2. Mars, the Past and the Future
3. Asplarnatim
4. The Center of Mars
5. Blast Off to Earth
6. Earth, Time of the Dinosaurs
7. Ross Sea, Year Zero
8. Outer Space, Eezg's Thousandth Year
9. America, the 1980's
10. Sputnik's Orbit, 19
11. West Indies, 1492
12. Greenland, Time of the Vikings
13. United States, 1990
14. Greenland, with the Vikings Again
15. Hyperspace, No Particular Time
16. Andromeda Galaxy, 2000
17. Corner of the Universe, Many Times
18. Mxzvntouk, 31989
19. Blooble, 32098

I think Chapter 7 might have been referring to an idea I had about an alien civilization that lived at the bottom of the Ross Sea in Antarctica. (I spent a lot of time looking at maps and globes as a kid.) With Chapter 10, I think I intended to look up when Sputnik was launched, but never got around to it. And I'm quite sure Mxzvntouk has nothing whatsoever to do with Superman's Mr. Mxyzptlk.

I also came across a few of my writings from second grade, some of which were rather morbid. There was one story where my class went searching for a hamster and met a whole bunch of animals, and the school ended up floating in the Atlantic. The story ended abruptly, and the teacher asked, "What happened to our school? What happened to Whiskers [the hamster]?" My reply was, "Whiskers came with us. The blue whale wrecked the school and we drowned." There was also a story where I turned into a monkey (from a list of story starters that a lot of teachers had, if I remember correctly), which I reproduce here in its entirety:

I was sitting in Miss Hitchins' class watching a movie on monkeys. I fell asleep. When I woke up, I looked down and saw hair all over my body. My hand was holding a banana! I can not say anything to Miss Hitchins or anybody except another monkey because I AM a monkey! It feels fine being a monkey. I don't know if I am going to be a monkey for the rest of my life, though. I see trees and other plants all around the classroom! All of the papers are fruits! Everybody else is a monkey! I see an elephant! I have mice in my hair! I am in the jungle! A snapping turtle is after me! I jump over a hurdle! I HAVE to get away! An ant is hurting me! I FINALLY get away! I jump over a snake! I get caught by a mongoose! I get dropped into a pond! I get bit by a hippo! I get caught by an eagle! I got flew up [sic] to the clouds! I get tossed out the door! I see a lion! He roars at me. A bat bites me! A frog jumps on top of me! He drops a can of paint on me! I HAVE to stop being a monkey! I go outside. I ride an elephant back home. I jump in the window! I break out of the roof! I jump over a tree! I jump back to school! I crash through a window! I hop across the teacher's desk! I eat a rotten banana! I jump across the hall! I fall in a hole! I land in a fire! I burn! I die!

Man, I really abused the exclamation point back then, didn't I? And no, I'm not sure why my school contained a deadly fire pit, or why I was inconsistent over whether or not the school had turned into a jungle.
