[livejournal.com profile] bethje and I watched other things besides Bullshit! in the past few days, so let me see if I can think back and recall what they all were.

1. American Idol Finalé: I guess they just got every celebrity who would agree to do it, right. Where else are you going to see Live, Meat Loaf, Burt Bacharach, Dionne Warwick, Mary J. Blige, Wolfgang Puck, Prince, and David Hasselhoff all in the same show? (And, for that matter, would you really WANT to?)

Oh, and I was also wondering why, when Katharine McPhee sang "Somewhere Over The Rainbow," she included the beginning part that wasn't even in the movie, but not the "skies are blue" line. None of their song arrangements really make any sense, but that was just weird. According to my mom's Harold Arlen piano book, all of the Wizard of Oz songs have little introductions that weren't used in the actual film. The one for "Ding Dong, The Witch Is Dead" starts with:

"Once there was a wicked witch in the lovely Land of Oz
And a wickeder, wickeder, wickeder witch there never, never was"

They just don't write 'em like that anymore, do they? {g}

2. Scared Straight: Talk about using fear to get people to obey the law (and yes, I WAS talking about that, in my next-to-last post before this)! This was a special from the seventies where kids with criminal tendencies are taken to a prison and yelled at by inmates. I've said before that I'm not generally a fan of using fear as the main motivation in getting people to obey the law, but it seemed to work for a fair number of these kids. The DVD included an update showing where they were twenty years later, and one of them turned out to be a combination preacher and kung fu instructor. Crazy, huh?

3. Party Monster: The Shockumentary: A documentary on Michael Alig, a drugged-up dumbass club kid who was convicted for the murder of another club kid. I have to say that I don't understand club kids any more than I understand...well, just about any subculture, especially the ones that involve taking a lot of drugs.

I also watched a bunch of videos that people had linked to, but I hadn't had the chance to watch. I don't have anything to say about most of them, but if you haven't seen it yet, you need to witness the amusingly terrible Super Mario on Ice, with Jason Bateman, Alyssa Milano, and Mr. Belvedere as Bowser.

And speaking of ridiculous things, I saw a van today with a Bob Jones University logo on the side. I'm not sure what its purpose was, but it's not something you would expect to see out on the street, especially in this part of the country.
