This entry is sort of a mental dump for things I've been thinking about as of late, but didn't want to make into complete entries.

1. Inspired partially by watching Hookers at the Point a few days ago, I'm inclined to think prostitution should be legal. That way, they can reduce risks associated with it (both for the prostitutes and their clients) and get power out of the hands of the pimps. Sort of like the reasons for legalizing drugs, really, except I'm more ambivalent on the drug issue. I'm not saying I would ever utilize the services of a prostitute, just that I don't really see the rationale for keeping it illegal. If someone wants to pay money for sex, shouldn't that be their decision, not the government's?

2. Do pencil points wear down faster nowadays, or am I just more concerned with having a sharp point? I'm almost sure it's the latter, but I seem to be sharpening my pencil all the time at work, and I don't even use it that much. At my cataloging job, I use one of those mechanical pencils, which is cool, even though I always have trouble loading new leads into it.

3. While I don't particularly like driving in ANY kind of rain, I find drizzle to be especially bad. It falls so lightly that even the lowest setting for the windshield wipers is too fast; but if I don't use the wipers at all, the windshield gets really bad.

4. On my way to work yesterday, someone pulled out from a parking lot, and then stopped right under the stoplight. It was a one-way stretch of road, so it's not like that car was obstructing traffic or anything, but it was weird.

5. I was listening to Severe Tire Damage, the live They Might Be Giants album, the other day. I find the album to be kind of weak, but not for the same reason that other fans seem to dislike it. Most of the complaints I've seen about it on TMBG forums have been along the lines of "it doesn't represent a typical live TMBG show," which I guess is true, but I really don't think it was SUPPOSED to. My problem is more that there seems to have been a lack of preparation. The Planet of the Apes songs are a case in point. If they wanted these on the album, why didn't they record them themselves, instead of relying on low-quality bootlegs? And they used the Live!! NYC version of "Ana Ng," which I was familiar with before Severe [1] came out, and which I always found somewhat lacking. I guess most of the tracks are good, but there are some songs that they've performed much better live, and some other songs that they probably should have included but didn't. Since the Johns usually joke around during the spoken-word part of "Why Does The Sun Shine?", I'm somewhat disappointed that they did such a straight recital on the Severe version, but maybe they thought the joke would get old fast. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I still like the version of "She's Actual Size" that's on there, since that's a song I got really sick of at actual concerts. I think a large part of that was that John Flansburgh insisted on singing the second half of the song veeeerrrry slooowwwly, though, and that's not the case on the live album.

6. [livejournal.com profile] lozenger8 did a meme in this entry, and I decided to propagate it.

"Comment on this entry and I will give you a letter. Write ten words beginning with that letter in your journal, including an explanation what the word means to you and why, and then pass out letters to those who want to play along."

My letter is S.

S is for Sandwich, which I eat practically every day for lunch.
S is for Sloth, probably the Deadly Sin of which I am most guilty.
S is for Severe Tire Damage, which I just finished writing about.
S is for Singing, which is something I wish I could do better.
S is for Sleep, which has been somewhat lacking as of late, but I suppose that's largely my own fault.
S is for Snow, which annoys me.
S is for Scarecrow, one of my favorite fictional characters.
S is for Salads, which I should probably eat more often, but don't particularly like.
S is for Sims, which I used to play an obscene amount, but haven't in a long time.
S is for Sun, the heat and light of which are caused by the nuclear reactions between Conshohocken, King of Prussia, Main Line, and Camden.

If anyone else wants me to give them a letter, let me know. I doubt anyone will, though, and that's fine.

7. Is it pathetic to put on music while posting, just so I can put something in the "Current Music" field?

[1] While I'll often abbreviate album titles by using their initials, I tend not to do that with this album, for obvious reasons. {g}
