I used the microwave at work for the first time today. It has a really weird interface, with no numerical keypad, instead having buttons for increments of ten and one for both minutes and seconds. Is this common for old microwaves, or was this manufactured in some country where they don't use our numerals or something? My dad once had a microwave that had dials instead of buttons; I think it was probably the cheapest one he could get.

Anyway, there was a new Simpsons episode last night, and that means a new review from me. This one was pretty good. It had a lot of slow, conversation-based humor, like the conversation between Marge and the British guy about his job as an office manager, and his attempt to tell Marge a joke. I thought these runs were funny, but I wonder if the length of these bits was why we didn't see all that much of the other side of the swap. What we did see was good, like Homer's report on CSI: Miami, but there wasn't that much development on why the woman and the remaining Simpsons grew to hate each other so much. I guess we can fill in the blanks ourselves, though. I also thought the ending was a bit abrupt, which isn't to say it was bad. I mean, it made sense, and tied up the loose ends without invoking an ape. It just gave me a "What, it's over already?" kind of feeling. I wonder if we'll see the Simpsons' plasma TV again, or if it will go the way of Homer's vibrating chair.

Family Guy was pretty good. I liked the subplot with Stewie more than the main plot, but I thought they were tied together well. Stewie's half-brother was a nice and unexpected bit of continuity. (It's weird how, on shows like The Simpsons and FG, women can get pregnant and give birth while everyone else stays the same age. It was the same way when Manjula gave birth to her octuplets, and Maggie didn't age.) I also thought the vasectomy song was pretty good, and I liked Peter thinking the Street Fighter characters were his children, as well as the joke about finding diversity in the Abercrombie & Fitch catalog.

After our TV-watching, [livejournal.com profile] bethje and I watched a movie, namely Hellworld, the eighth and last (so far, anyway) volume in the Hellraiser series. The main impression I got from the movie was that it was written by committee. It didn't seem like they really knew where to go with it, and there was all kinds of crazy crap about online gaming, a vengeful Pinhead imitator, and hallucinogenic drugs used in conjunction with cell phones to torture kids. Definitely not one of the better movies in the series, but hey, we've seen all of them now.

I had a dream last night that was obviously inspired by Pet Semetary, although I have no idea why my subconscious would have been thinking of that. My sister brought our cat Cat, who died a few years ago, back to life. The revived Cat was mean, and wouldn't let me touch her. I then "woke up" from that dream into another one, where my sister explained what happened in the last dream. Even within the context of the dream, I had no idea how my sister would have known what had happened in another dream. I also thought about how Cat was old when she died, and that, if I were going to resurrect one of my former pets, it would have made a lot more sense for it to be Star. (She was a cat we had who was hit by a car when she was only two.) Later, there was something about being in a school or something, and some kind of multi-car road trip in which David Cross was somehow involved. All I remember is that he had to leave early. I think the dream might well have also been written by committee. {g}

Streetcar Suburb
You scored 26 out of 40 on urban-rural and 19 out of 40 land intensity.
People know you as: Grandmama
Quote: "Maybe the neighbor can lend us some sugar."

Your score indicates that you prefer a large metropolitan area to the wilderness and that you like your personal space. But you also enjoy interacting with other people occasionally and maybe, just maybe, on a rare occasion you even enjoy walking somewhere besides across the parking lot to your car.

You should live in a pre-World War II suburb. The kind populated by bungalow houses and charming little corner grocery stores. Just like grandma.

Examples of places you should live: Bethesda, MD; Evanston, IL
