I'm not a girl, not yet a woman
Mar. 25th, 2006 10:34 pmYou know, I don't mind washing the dishes, but I hate drying. Am I alone in this? If so, maybe some of you should come over and help me out next time I do the dishes. {g}
Sometimes there's an entry with links or pictures or something that I want to come back to later, and I often forget. Now I think about it, though, I guess I could use the "memories" feature to keep those entries on file, couldn't I? I've never actually used that feature for what I assume is its intended function, since I never think of it. Really, though, how am I to know what I'll be interested in remembering in the future?
I don't post all that many links in my own journal (well, aside from general links to band pages and such), but I couldn't let this pass. There's apparently a statue of Britney Spears giving birth. On this Frank Black Forum thread, which was where I learned about it, a few people pointed out that it really looks nothing like Britney.
A mention of the standardized test system of education made me want to say something about the topic, but really, what more can I say than "standardized tests suck"? And I don't say this out of bitterness; I actually did pretty well on such tests. I'm not sure I would have gotten into all the colleges I applied for if I hadn't gotten a good SAT score. But that doesn't make me smart (as I'm sure you can all tell ;)). I think the problem is that many of those in charge of the educational system want to make it as simple and cookie-cutter-ish as possible. Administering standardized tests as a measure of how well students learn things means you don't have to consider how people learn differently, as well as how some people just aren't good at taking tests. Obviously, the country has neither the money nor the manpower to provide as many teachers as there are learning styles in a school district, but it often seems like they're not even trying. Some people would probably argue that they do this on purpose, since our educational system isn't supposed to turn out intelligent, free-thinking individuals, but rather cubicle serfs and factory drones. But I don't know. It's not a subject where I'm that knowledgeable. All I know is that standardized tests suck. {g}
I'm a lesbian trapped in a man's body, and that's why I'm attracted to women! (Is that the lamest joke EVER, or what?)
And now, this:
1. What does your Livejournal name mean?
It's kind of an inside joke, involving high school physics class. I've explained it several times, but if there's anyone who doesn't know yet and cares, I'll explain it again.
2. Elaborate on your default photo?
It's Wart, from Super Mario Bros. 2.
3. Make up a question.
What's your favorite mode of transportation? That's not a particularly good question, but it looks like I'll have two more opportunities to make up questions in this survey.
4. What's your current relationship status?
I'm in a committed relationship.
5. What EXACTLY are you wearing right now?
How exact do I have to be? Green shirt, black pants, checked boxers, black socks, brown shoes. Is that enough?
6. What is your current problem?
Uncertainty about my immediate future.
7. What do you love most?
I love the Universe. I love all the listeners.
8. What makes you most happy?
Brain chemicals
9. Are you musically inclined?
Not at all.
10. If you could go back in time, and change something, what would you change?
I'd stop the dodo from going extinct.
11. If you MUST be an animal for ONE day, what would you be?
A cat, I suppose.
12. Ever have a near death experience?
No.
13. Name an obvious quality you have.
Um, I'm nice? I hope I am, anyway.
14. What's the name of the song that's stuck in your head right now?
Well, the song I'm LISTENING to right now is "Missing The War," by Ben Folds Five. I don't usually have other songs in my head when I'm listening to a song, but it does happen occasionally. Actually, one song that HAS been popping into my head pretty often as of late is "Meet The Author," by the Fastbacks. Maybe I should listen to that one.
15. Who did you cut and paste this from?
little_octagon
16. Name someone with the same birthday as you.
My next-door neighbor
17. Have you ever vandalized someone's private property?
No. Not on purpose, anyway, and I don't think it counts as vandalism otherwise.
18. Have you ever been in a fight?
Not really.
19. Have you ever sung in front of a large audience?
I've sung in front of audiences before, but not big ones, and not recently.
20. What is the first thing you notice about the opposite sex?
Hair, usually.
21. What do you usually order from Starbucks?
Nothing. But when I DO order something, it's the caramel apple cider.
22. Would you ever go into space?
I have to say no. Not until we've invented faster-than-light flight, anyway.
23. If you HAD to get a tattoo, what would it be?
I'd probably go with something Oz-related. Maybe just the Z-within-the-O symbol, although that might be a bit trite.
24. Has anyone ever said you looked like a celebrity?
Someone in college told me I looked like Weird Al, which I was actually kind of aiming for. Also, after a really bad haircut,
bethje kept saying I looked like Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber. Needless to say, I never went back to that hairdresser. Actually, I don't think they're even there anymore.
25. Do you still watch kiddy movies or TV shows?
Yes, but not ALL of them. I discriminate somewhat.
26. Did you have braces?
No, but I had a corrective appliance once. Sort of like a retainer, but it didn't retain.
27. Are you comfortable with your height?
Yes, but I have an unfortunate tendency to slouch, so I don't always look as tall as I actually am.
28. What is the most romantic thing someone has ever done for you?
Beth has surprised me with gifts before. That's romantic, I'd say.
29. Do you speak any other languages?
Didn't I just answer this on the last survey?
30. Do you have a crush on someone on your livejournal?
Can it be considered a crush when you're actually in a relationship with someone?
little_octagon and
travspence both did this meme:
"When you see this, post the lyris to an anti-war song in your LJ."
The first song I thought of was actually XTC's "Reign Of Blows," which is kind of weird, considering that I don't even LIKE that song that much. The mix sounds sloppy to me, and the lyrics are difficult to understand. (Maybe it sounds better on the remastered CD of The Big Express? I wouldn't know.) Those difficult-to-understand lyrics are actually pretty good, though.

Reign of blows
Reign of blows
Reign of blows cascading down upon your shoulders
Far too many men dressed up as soldiers
The lamb is brought to the ground
Under the weight of the Crown
A crown of thorns and dark deeds
The swastika and the hammer and symbol
Are sickles that reap only weeds
Reign of blows
Reign of blows
Reign of blows precedes a storm of revolution
People have no place in their solution
So torture raises its head
Decked out in blue, white, and red
And iron maidens will slam
And by the half light of burning republics
Joe Stalin looks just like Uncle Sam
Reign of blows
Reign of blows
Reign of blows has washed away the corpse of Abel
Cain is now the king in every Babel
I just don't care who you are
When death draws up in his car
And talks in terrorist tones
Remember violence is only a vote for the
Black Queen to take back the throne
Reign of blows

I have a friend who always said she was a gay 13-year-old boy trapped in a woman's body, but she was referring to more than just being attracted to men.

I never took any education courses, but I DID take enough classes where I couldn't really learn anything to know that there are a lot of different learning styles. Or maybe I'm absorbing information from all the books on multiple intelligences that I'm cataloging, despite the fact that I've never read any of them. It's probably some kind of L-Space effect. {g}
