How I Spent My Holiday

Christmas was fairly uneventful. I went over to bethje's house to eat dinner and open presents, but she didn't feel well, and didn't get up until late afternoon. Dinner was pretty good. I had ham, meatballs, sausage, corn, and four slightly overcooked rolls. My presents were mostly clothes and candy, and while I intend no slight to the people who gave these to me (hey, I can always use new clothes), they're not that interesting to read about. I did get Stephin Merritt's Showtunes album from Beth's Uncle John. It's a collection of songs that Stephin wrote for three different musicals, but not presented in order or anything. They have all of the wit and cleverness that I've come to expect from Merritt's work, especially on songs such as "What A Fucking Lovely Day!" and "Sounds Expensive." I also have a particular fondness for "Ukelele Me!", with its word-twisting lyrics. Even though this came out last year, I'll probably include a song or two from it on my Best of 2007 mix. Honestly, 2007 had pretty slim pickings as far as new music that I actually heard. I understand that there's going to be a new Magnetic Fields album next year, so that's cool.

Also, thanks to Beth, I now have a DS. Now I just need a game to play on it. {g}

I had lunch at Subway yesterday, and I noticed that they now serve personal pizzas. I'm not entirely sure why they'd choose to enter into an already crowded market like the pizza one. I know some places serve pizza for fussy kids who don't want any of the regular menu items (you know, like me when I was young), but I'm not sure I can imagine a kid not finding anything else they would like at Subway, of all places. Yet I saw someone ordering one of those pizzas, and it wasn't even a child.

And before I post this, there are several people on my friends list who have birthdays at either the end or the beginning of the year, so I might as well just mention them all now. Happy birthday to slfcllednowhere (one day late), little_octagon, jazzsammich, k1cup, and bec_87rb!
