The Wolfman's got nards!
Sep. 23rd, 2007 10:43 pmAs per usual,
bethje and I watched the latest movie that we'd gotten from Netflix this weekend. This time, it was Monster Squad, another one of those eighties movies with a group of kids having crazy adventures. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be, but it was still pretty amusing. I didn't get why Dracula was always blowing stuff up instead of sucking blood, though.
The season premieres of both The Simpsons and Family Guy aired tonight, so I might as well say a few words about them. The former was pretty decent. I think I might be past the point where I expect there to be anything amazing in new episodes; I just hope for a story that holds together, keeps everyone in character, and has a sufficient number of successful jokes. I'd say this one meets all of those criteria, although I think it was kind of a cop-out that Homer never admitted to Marge that he didn't get the new job. I guess we've seen enough episodes where Homer has to come clean that it wouldn't really have added that much anyway, though.
I didn't have incredibly high hopes for the Family Guy episode, since even though I thought they'd done some great Star Wars jokes in the past, the show tends to be strongest when it works in a lot of different references instead of just doing an episode-length parody (or, in this case, a two-episode-length parody). I actually quite enjoyed it, though. There were some good riffs on the more ridiculous moments in the first movie. It's weird that Rush Limbaugh actually agreed to do a voice, but maybe he's a Star Wars fan. I actually remember Seth MacFarlane mentioning on Countdown that Rush was willing to do a voice on FG, but Bill O'Reilly wasn't.
Okay, that's all for now. For my next entry, I'm thinking of talking about some of the more obscure board and card games I played as a kid. Or would that be dreadfully uninteresting?
