This past weekend, while not particularly eventful, did include a few things that I thought I should mention. I had a coupon for a free Chick-fil-A breakfast entree that expired on Saturday, so I used it that morning to get a chicken biscuit. I hadn't had one before, and at first I thought it was weird. I liked both components, but eating them together was a bit strange. I liked it enough to actually pay for a second one, though, and I liked that one better. I think the biscuit was fluffier, so maybe they don't give out the best sandwiches for free. I think I mostly liked it better because I'd gotten somewhat used to it by then, though. After breakfast, I stopped by Target. I didn't buy anything there, but I did notice that the Super Mario Bros. 3 cartoon is now out on DVD. I used to watch that and Captain N every Saturday morning, and I think I had all of them on tape at one point. I've probably lost or taped over most of them by now, though. I won't pretend that was a great show even by Saturday morning cartoon standards, but I still wouldn't mind owning it (or the Captain N set, although that wasn't at Target).

[livejournal.com profile] bethje and I ended up watching three movies during the weekend. The first was Spider-Man 3, which we saw at the theater on Saturday night. It's been a while since I'd been to the movies (I think the last time was for the re-release of Dirty Dancing, and Borat before that), but there are actually quite a few new movies I'd like to see this month or thereabouts (the Harry Potter and Simpsons movies, obviously, plus Sicko and Hairspray). Anyway, getting back to Spider-Man 3, while I'd say it's the weakest of the series so far, I still thought it was very good. I don't usually do spoiler cuts for movies, but since this one is still out in theaters and I have some fairly specific things I want to mention, I think I'm going to do so here. So here we go. )

The other two movies we watched were Y Tu Mama Tambien and Weird Science. I didn't think much of the former, which really just seemed to be another movie about frat boy types trying to get laid (and, in this case, succeeding), only in a foreign language. I can't help but imagine some studio executive watching it and thinking, "Hey, this guy would be PERFECT to direct a Harry Potter movie!" Mind you, this imaginary executive presumably thought the same thing while watching Home Alone. {g}

Beth said she watched Weird Science pretty often when she was a kid, but I'd never seen it. Pretty much any movie from the eighties or earlier that makes heavy use of computers is automatically amusing nowadays, but I thought the movie was pretty funny on its own merits as well. When thinking about it today, I came to the conclusion that it bore an odd resemblance to Mary Poppins, but with a lot more sexual content and bathroom humor. {g} I also found it interesting that Michael Berryman (the bald guy from the original The Hills Have Eyes had a small role in it. Since attending the Monster-Mania Conventions, Beth and I have paid particular attention to the people we've seen talk at those.

I had trouble sleeping yesterday, since stuff kept waking me up. At one point, there were a bunch of sirens going off, and I still have no idea what they were for. Maybe they were air raid sirens, and I was supposed to duck and cover or something. :P Hopefully I'll sleep better today. I'm glad that I'm getting a day off from work this week, although the fact that it's already July bothers me somewhat. I probably concentrate too much on the annoying parts of the future. If I spend my days off from work being irritated that I have to go back to work the next day (which I'll probably be doing come tomorrow evening), and my summers worrying about winter, it's hard to really enjoy anything, isn't it?

EDIT: Oh, by the way, happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] listenesmerelda, and happy belated birthday to [livejournal.com profile] secretnthewings.
