vovat: (Simpsons Al)
I had a dream the other day, and I remember it involving both Neko and They Might Be Giants wanted to change their names, and asked their fans for suggestions. Considering that Neko goes by her real name (as far as I know, anyway), this doesn't really make any sense, but do dreams ever really make much sense? Another part of the same dream involved a giant roller coaster called the Murdernator (although I don't think there were going to stick with that name; name-changing was apparently a recurring theme in this dream) that had a lot of build-up, taking a long time to climb incredibly high while a voice made an announcement about how scary it was, but it ended up being really disappointing. I think my inspiration for this was Kingda Ka at Great Adventure, which is advertised as having a really steep drop, but the track turns so much that you can hardly tell. The Murdernator's track also turned around like that. Anyway, there was some kind of connection between the ride and Neko's name change, and this is the second time I can recall having a dream that involved Neko Case and amusement parks. Perhaps the implication is that she should open her own theme park. I mean, hey, Dolly Parton and Conway Twitty did it, right?

Other dreams I can recall having yesterday and today were less interesting, including one about my fear of detours; and another where I was attending some bizarre mix of college, the YMCA day camp my dad twice forced me to attend, and my job.

Last night's Simpsons episode was another pretty weak one, and didn't really go much of anywhere. I don't think it ever made us care much about Bart's plight, and did anyone NOT assume that Bart would mess up in the make-up game as well? The fact that they did it over and over again was kind of clever, but rather lackluster in its execution. As for the subplot, could they really not think of any better way to move it along than to have the Lovejoys demand a refund from Homer at his house, rather than the actual store? A few halfway decent jokes (Marge's glasses, Marge's negotiation with the Shelbyville coach, Bart taking down his J. Giles Band posters after hearing the song parody) weren't enough to save this one. Maybe the writers really did put all of their recent efforts into the movie, as some critics have charged. This season has had some quality episodes, but also more than its share of duds.

On the other hand, I actually liked the new Family Guy. It kind of seems like other recent episodes have been concentrating more on pushing the envelope than on actually making good jokes. I mean, I'm cool with edgy humor, but the show almost seemed to be taking a turn toward edgy without as much humor. This one was pretty much non-stop gags, though, including a few of the nonsensical bits that the show tends to do well, like Sneakers O'Toole and the news broadcast about the Super-Devil. I don't really have anything in particular to say about American Dad. It was pretty good, but not one of the best in recent memory (although pretty much the whole show should technically count as "recent memory," shouldn't it?).
