vovat: (Simpsons Al)
Hey, how about some more dream descriptions? I think there was more to this one dream before this part, but all I can remember involved a movie that was considered cursed in Europe, so they'd only show it at one time late at night. There were times when I was myself, and I wanted to know what [livejournal.com profile] bethje and her family had heard about this movie. Then, at other times, I was a guy in a co-educational group of stupid young people like would be victims for some serial killer in a horror movie. I was obsessed with this movie's existence, and thought there was some connection to some other movie about a missing child that was advertised but never actually released. I wanted to drive home to research it, but my friends just wanted to hang around and get drunk and have sex. And about all I can remember beyond that involved watching some anime where a guy could shoot tree trunks out of his body.

In another dream I had (after going back to sleep after writing the description of the first dream), I was laid off from the toy store where I used to work. In real life, this happened almost six years ago, when they closed down due to lack of business. In the dream, though, I was apparently still working there occasionally, and had done so one weekend, while no managers were there. I thought it might be my fault I was being laid off, but it turned out the store had to close because one of the managers was selling drugs and homework answers to kids.

Getting back to waking life, although still somewhat separated from reality, tonight's Simpsons episode wasn't that great. I can't think of much that I especially disliked about it, but it didn't make me laugh very often, either. I did think there wasn't enough of a twist on the bit about Superintendent Chalmers' antique cologne bottles; exactly what we thought was going to happen was what did happen. But Krusty's dollar-sign eyes DID have a typical Simpsons twist, so that kind of made up for it. I think the best bits in the episode were visual ones, including Cletus' pimp coat and the animation style they used for Bart's ghost story.

Next week's episode apparently has Grampa falling in love with Selma. Hey, didn't that montage at the end of "Gump Roast" have a still of Grampa marrying both Patty and Selma for the "crazy wedding, where something happens, and doo-doo-doo-doo"? And don't forget that Abe once couted Selma's mother. Oh, well. I've long since learned that a ridiculous premise doesn't necessarily mean a bad episode. For that matter, a promising premise doesn't always mean a GOOD episode.

As for Family Guy, I thought the best part was Peter trying to be a redneck at the beginning. While the rest wasn't quite as funny, I did like that they actually used Quagmire's job as a plot point. Maybe someday we'll see Cleveland's deli again, too.

Oh, and by the way, my roommate was just recently watching something on TV (I think it was The L Word), and they played the Ditty Bops' version of "Sister Kate." That was unexpected.
