lozenger8 challenged me to write a 500-word Oz story. It took me a while to get around to it, and my first two tries were already too long when I'd just started to introduce the basic plot. I'm apparently not used to writing really short stories. I might well complete the story about the Walking City of Trilmeria anyway, but I'm not sure if I'll do anything else with the one about the giant weasel. Anyway, here's what I came up with. It ties in with the novel-length manuscript I've been intermittently working on for the past decade or so. And, unless the word count utility is lying to me, it's exactly 500 words, not counting the title.

Any thoughts? Yeah, I know. You liked my second grade stories better. :P It's possible I'll have more of those in the future, if I can turn up any more. I'm pretty sure I didn't throw any of that stuff away, but that doesn't necessarily mean I have it here.
By the way, according to my watch, the 23rd will be over in less than two minutes, so I suppose I'll have to wish a happy belated 47th birthday to Weird Al. The 23rd was also the date that Bishop Ussher determined for the creation of the world. How he managed to date it so exactly, I'm not sure. Also, I believe yesterday (and now it actually IS yesterday, as of a minute ago) was the last day of Ramadan.
