The house we bought was really a lake
May. 12th, 2006 04:09 pmI'm really behind on my LiveJournaling. I'm still processing data and in the process of moving, and I don't know how much longer I'll be doing either one. You never really realize how much stuff you have until you try to move it. Sometimes I think new stuff generates just to annoy movers. I can say that I have no idea where some of the shirts that I packed today came from.
With my recent purchase of The Wayward Bus/Distant Plastic Trees, I now have all of the Magnetic Fields' albums. This CD is actually two albums, separated by a cover (such as it is) of John Cage's "4'33"." I have to say that I prefer Distant Plastic Trees, the more experimental-sounding of the two. I like the use of static in "Kings," and "Falling In Love With The Wolfboy" and "Josephine" are both cool songs. The Wayward Bus also has some good stuff, though, including the opener "When You Were My Baby." As might be expected, quite a few of the songs are about dancing. {g} It's a little weird that all of the songs on these albums have a female vocalist. Stephin Merritt gets a lot of different people to sing his songs, but I'm used to him singing most of the stuff on Magnetic Fields albums.
Hmm, reviews of the record say that one song from the LP release of Distant Plastic Trees, "Plant White Roses," didn't make it to the CD. Has anyone heard it? Also, it looks like I differ from several of those reviewers in preferring DPT to TWB, but I can live with that.
Speaking of albums, I'm wondering if I should get the newest one from the Flaming Lips.
obsessical put "The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song" on a mix CD, and it's a really cool song. The only other album of theirs that I have is Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, but I like that one a lot. Maybe I should see if I can hear another song or two from the new one before putting down the money for it.
And mostly for my own benefit, here are the released dates for some albums that are supposed to be coming out in the near future:
The Ditty Bops - Moon Over the Freeway, 5/23
Cracker - Greenland, 6/6
Frank Black - Fastman Raiderman, 6/20
In non-music news, I had a dream a few nights ago where I was at a restaurant, and I kept having to relive the part where I ordered. When I was ordering for the third time, the waitress made some comment about how I'd already ordered, and I didn't know how she'd know that, since I figured it was some kind of temporal anomaly. Apparently ordering food has been on my mind, since I had a dream the next night about a drive-thru. I don't remember anything else about that dream, except I think I might have been using unusual coins to pay for the food.
( Finally, it's yet another pointless quiz! )
