Bombardment!
Feb. 27th, 2006 01:05 pmSo, what's with that song that samples the Soft Cell music, and has some woman singing a shitty song over it? I've heard it a few times now, and it confounds me.
Okay, on to more significant matters. Last night's Simpsons wasn't utterly hilarious or anything, but I couldn't find any real problems with it either. I've never actually seen My Fair Lady, but I know enough of the premise and the songs to get what they were going for. It was pretty cool to see an episode centered around Groundskeeper Willie. This was actually the second time Bart has destroyed his shack, but I'm willing to let that slide. As for the subplot, I guess it was a little thin, but the idea of there being a specific company that made Homer's generic blue pants was funny enough without them having to do much else with it. I liked how there was a callback to the crazy gym teacher later on in the episode, but I was really expecting there to be one to Kearney's attempted trip around the world as well. I'm somewhat disappointed that there wasn't one, but what are you going to do?
I'm not sure if American Dad was a new episode or just one I hadn't seen before, but I thought it was pretty good. I liked the stuff with Stan's body double and the messianic pizza delivery guy.
I watched a few more Futurama episodes with commentary last night, and now I know about the infamous "nobody cares" song that people are always bringing up. I found the table read for "A Tale of Two Santas," but I couldn't bring myself to listen to it for long. Maybe I'll try it again when I'm doing something else that occupies my visual sense.
( I haven't done one of these in a while. )
And I end this post with some choice quotes from the Jaded Journalist. I think that guy is genuinely funny, and his talents are probably being wasted on writing American Idol recaps. On the other hand, I guess it's pretty cool that the producers (or website maintainers, or whoever) let someone write snarky comments on the show for their official website.
"Man, every time Taylor sings, it reminds me of that Bruce Hornsby song they once featured on Family Ties. Speaking of Family Ties, remember when Uncle Tom Hanks drank the cooking sherry and Alex P. caught him at three in the morning? That was great."
"Katharine McPhee can read sheet music! Paul McCartney has admitted that he can't. Therefore, by some standards, Katharine is better than the Beatles. And Wings! How could she possibly lose?"
