Weddings Are Nice
Nov. 12th, 2005 02:49 pmYesterday, I went with
bethje to the wedding of her cousin Bobby. It was all right, but I'm usually somewhat uncomfortable being in crowded, noisy places for long. When Beth was talking to someone else (usually her cousin Dorothea), I couldn't hear the conversation at all, so I felt left out. I guess that's not a problem with the wedding itself, though. I did notice that the preacher told the same joke as the one at Bobby's dad's wedding last year. The food was actually quite good. I had a meatball sandwich, a stuffed shell, green beans, and rolls with butter. The music selection was a bit odd, because it started out with pretty much nothing but bland old stuff, and then switched to rap music toward the end.
Going to weddings sometimes makes me wonder what I'd want my own wedding to be like, if I were ever to have one (which I seriously doubt I will). I think Beth (assuming she's the one I marry ;)) and I would make the music selection ourselves, although I'd probably let her do most of it. If I were to decide myself, I'd probably pick a lot of obscure stuff that would confuse people. I'd definitely want to include SOME stuff from my own music collection, though. Maybe I'd try to come up with some good instrumentals, since then people not knowing the lyrics wouldn't be a concern. Even though we're gentiles, I'd probably want to include some of that klezmer music that they apparently play at Jewish weddings (at least according to the media; I've never actually BEEN to a Jewish wedding, so I wouldn't know how accurate that conception is). And we'd probably have "It's Not My Birthday," by They Might Be Giants, played at some point. Beth says she's want to have sushi appetizers, and I told her I'd want to have little slices of appetizer-style pizza. It probably says something about me that my imaginary wedding details are so focused on music and food. {g}
On a completely different note, I understand that they're raising the price of stamps again next year. Unfortunately, I just ran out of stamps, and I don't want to buy another sheet of stamps that will be practically worthless in another two months. I guess I'll have to pay postage on each item as I mail it. It's not like I really send that many letters.
While I'm complaining about things, I might as well mention that my cell phone just today told me about a message from Wednesday morning. Come on, that's ridiculous! It wasn't anything all that important, but if it keeps up, it could cause problems in the future. I wish there were some way to get the phone company to fix that, but I know there probably isn't. I'm already signed up for a two-year contract, so what reason would they have to care whether I'm satisfied with the service? Stupid phone companies.
( Yes, more quiz results! How did you guess? )
