Everybody talks about the weather
Oct. 25th, 2005 10:42 pmThe weather at this time of year can be rather annoying, what with the temperature fluctuating so much. I can never really be sure whether or not I'll need a jacket. Even if I'm okay in short sleeves at the beginning of the day, what about at night? It almost makes me wish it would just get cold already, so I could just put on my coat without thinking. "Almost" is the key word in that sentence, though. I hate the cold. It would be nice if the temperature were to remain somewhere between, say, 60 and 70 degrees (Fahrenheit, of course) all year 'round. Most warmer climates seem to be much more prone to hurricanes, tornadoes, and earthquakes, though. I suppose changing temperatures are a small price to pay for a relative lack of natural disasters.
Speaking of natural disasters, I heard something on the radio today that's similar to what I've been hearing quite a bit in the past, regarding evacuations for hurricanes. There are always people who ask why some residents want to remain in their homes during a storm, rather than rushing to a shelter when they have the chance. The thing is, I can totally understand why someone might want to go down with the ship, so to speak. I mean, it's their home, right?
I had a dream on Sunday night where I was reading a new Discworld book where someone was in communication with "Bloody Stupid" Johnson, the famed engineer/architect whose creations always contained mathematical or other flaws. The books present him as dead at the "present" time, which was one thing I found odd about the communication in the dream book. The other is that he actually signed a letter as "Bloody Stupid." I remember having a dream a week or two ago that featured Reacher Gilt from Going Postal, although I don't remember the context. I've been reading Discworld books for seven years now, and I can't recall having related dreams until recently. Oz dreams are another story.
Speaking of dreams, I had another one where I went on a big water slide that I remembered from when I was a kid. The weird thing about it was that it ended right in the middle of the street. It didn't hurt, but I still thought it might be dangerous, and decided I should probably right a letter or something. There was never actually a water slide that I visited a lot as a kid, but I DO recall going on the Alpine slide at Camelback on a few different occasions, so maybe that's what my subconscious was thinking of. But you never can tell with the subconscious mind.
It's kind of annoying when I put on the news radio station so I can hear the traffic report, and then forget to pay attention to it. Fortunately, they have a new one every ten minutes.
