I feel like a big wheel
Sep. 26th, 2005 01:33 amSo, today (or I guess technically yesterday, at this point),
bethje, her cousin Marji, Marji's husband Ronnie, and I all went to Great Adventure. Before going into the regular amusement park, we drove through the safari, which was pretty fun. It's kind of weird, because they let the animals (well, aside from the really dangerous ones) walk right out into the road. The camels are the worst; they act like they own the road. But we also had a few giraffes walk right by the car, and an ostrich actually came up and ate off my hood. I wish someone had brought a camera, since I'm sure we could have gotten some good pictures out of that. Maybe next time, if there IS a next time. I am glad that they don't let the baboons out of their cage anymore, since I've heard stories about their climbing all over people's cars and ripping off their mirrors and such. Anyway, this was only my second time through the safari, and I'd gladly go through again sometime soon.
At the actual park, we only had time to ride five rides: Skull Mountain, Nitro, Superman, the carousel, and the teacups. Beth and I were the only ones of our party riding on the first three, since Ronnie is afraid of the rides or something. I don't know. I hear about people being afraid of amusement park rides, but I've been okay with them since I was pretty young. The only thing that really scares me is the Ferris wheel, because I have a fear of heights. Most rides that go up high don't stay up there long enough for me to get scared, but the Ferris wheel just sits up there for a while, often rocking in the breeze. We couldn't have gone on that even if I'd wanted to, though, since they never run it this late in the year. Instead, they turn the area around it into a stage for some Fright Fest show.
After getting back to Beth's house, she and I watched Spider Baby, mostly because Sid Haig was in it. Neither of us recognized him at all, though; he looked a lot different from how he does now. The movie itself had some good parts, but it was a little too slow-moving.
Beth tried to record the new Simpsons episode, but something went wrong, and she didn't get it. I'm hoping it'll be like last year, and they'll rerun all the new episodes eighteen times before the season ends. With my luck, though, it'll be the one I missed that they DON'T rerun for a long time. I think the last episode that I missed on its first airing was "She of Little Faith" a few seasons ago, and I don't remember how long after that I was able to see it. So, yeah, I'm kind of annoyed about that, and also about how we won't be getting any more new episodes until November. Lousy baseball.
