There are some pictures here of Frank Black's birthday party, which was attended by numerous celebrities, including John Flansburgh of They Might Be Giants. You have to pay to see full-size pictures, but the small images are still pretty cool. According to this thread, Bob Odenkirk and other Mr. Show cast members (but not David Cross) also showed up, but there aren't any pictures of them.

While I'm linking to things, here is a good answer to the people who want Creationism taught in schools, allegedly for the sake of balance. "OK, let's go along with it. In 9th grade biology let's do evolution on the first day of the school year--then we'll proceed to 'alternative theories of origins' and 'intelligent design theories.' Tuesday we'll cover the Algonquin creation myth, Wednesday the Shinto, Thursday the Yoruba, Friday--Mayan. Next week it's Pawnee, Inuit, Mogollon, Hindu, and Zoroastrian. We'll get to the Hebrew adaptation of the Babylonian (as recorded in Genesis) the third Thursday in May (if we don't have a fire drill)."

In more mundane news, I got my hair cut yesterday. I think I've made the comparison between haircuts and shoes before. Even if they seem fine at the store, when I'm eager to get out of there, they often turn out to be lousy once I get back home. I also forgot to have them sign my "pay for twelve haircuts, and get one free" card, which was one of the reasons I went to Supercuts in the first place. I guess that's just what the Supercuts executives want, though. Lure people in with a promotion, and then have them forget about it. On the other hand, I seem to recall Subway always giving me a zillion of those Sub Club stickers even when I didn't ask for them, so I guess it varies from one place to another. Incidentally, I'm pretty sure I never actually redeemed those stamps for a free sub. About the only time when I took advantage of one of those "buy a whole bunch, and get one free" deals was at a music store near my old school, and even then I lost some of my receipts, so it took longer than it should have. I've also gotten free appetizers with my Friday's card, but I usually only have to go there twice before getting enough points for that.

Anyway, I'd probably go to Supercuts even if it weren't for the promotion, because it's cheap, and even though their haircuts aren't perfect, they usually do better work than the barber shops that insisted on giving me little boys' haircuts. I still wish I had remembered to get them to sign the card, though.
