The StarB System
Mar. 8th, 2005 01:15 pm1. Yesterday evening,
bethje and I decided to use the gift certificate my dad gave me for Valentine's Day, which was for Starbucks. That's definitely a place for people in the know (not to mention filthy rich), since their menu is written in code. I'm sure everybody knows by now about all the weird probably-improperly-used Italian terms, and small drinks being called "tall," and so on. It doesn't explain what anything actually is on the menu, so you pretty much have to do research beforehand. Really, though, it wasn't that difficult for me, personally. I don't drink coffee, and I'm not fond of tea or hot chocolate either, which meant there was only one drink option for me. Fortunately, that one option (the caramel apple cider) was good. So, yes, Starbucks apparently isn't intended for the outsiders. Or maybe they just like to confuse people.
2. My dream last night was another one of those things about going back to school. There was something about my college dorm being renovated, and something else about Beth's dog Dewey playing cards.
3. An increase in the minimum wage was apparently shot down by the Senate. The thing is, even if the increase HAD passed, it wouldn't really have been enough. It isn't fair that the minimum wage is well below what you can live on. I mean, I know that it would be difficult for some employers to pay more, but it's just so unfair, you know? Not to mention that there's really no excuse for super-rich corporations like Wal-Mart to pay their employees so poorly.
4. It was pretty warm yesterday, and now it's snowing again. Way to build up false hopes, Mother Nature!
