Contemplations on a Theme
Oct. 8th, 2005 10:03 pmI got a haircut today. I never really like how my hair looks just after I get it cut, but I really needed it done, and it'll grow out soon. Is it in a hairdresser's personality to talk to everyone like they're little kids, or do I just have that effect on them? I've also had a few barbers insist on giving me a little boy's haircut, but that probably had something to do with the fact I didn't give them specific instructions as to how I actually wanted my hair cut. The thing is, I'm not totally sure what I want. I should probably get a picture of someone with a decent haircut, so I can bring it in for future haircuts.
Another thing I hate about getting my hair cut is how, afterwards, it always feels like there's hair in my shirt collar.
I was listening to the most recent Hypnotic Clambake album today. It has an instrumental track on it called "Clambake," and that got me thinking how a mix of band themes, self-titled songs, and the like might make for a good mix. I can't think of that many that I have in my collection, though. The Young Fresh Fellows have two themes, and They Might Be Giants and Belle and Sebastian have self-titled songs. I could also stretch it a bit to include "This Is Cracker Soul," that "Mucker Furgason" song that's at the beginning of Muckafurgason's self-titled album, and possibly even Mono Puff's "Dedicated." And, if necessary, I guess I could always throw on the Monkees' theme song. Anyway, what other bands or artists have themes or self-titled songs? I'm sure there are a lot that I'm not thinking of.
I guess I don't really listen to enough different artists to make themed mixes all that feasible. One mix I'm almost definitely going to do is a Best of 2005 one, although I'll probably include stuff from earlier years that I first heard in 2005.
