I got this from [livejournal.com profile] 3x1minus1, and about half of the songs that came up were from her, too. [livejournal.com profile] bethje also did it before I did.

Go to your music player of choice and put it all on shuffle. Say the
following questions aloud, and after each one press play. Use the song
title as the answer to the question.

What do you think of me, iTunes?
No More Glory - The Minus 5

Will I have a happy life?
Tranquilizer - Thurston Moore

What do my friends really think of me?
Stepping Stone - Sex Pistols

Do people secretly lust after me?
Heaven Is A Truck - Pavement

How can I make myself happy?
You Don't Own Me - Rasputina

What should I do with my life?
Media Wars
(I'm not even sure what this is.)

Why must life be so full of pain?
Tapiocra Tundra - The Monkees

How can I maximize my pleasure during sex?
A Festival In The Village - Funky Dragon

Can you give me some advice?
Talk To The Wookie - James Kochalka

What do you think happiness is?
Hey Brother, We're On Our Way (demo) - Camper Van Beethoven

And now, the question of the day:
Why do people top off their gas tanks? Is the little bit of gas you get that way really going to make much difference in the long run? My parents always did this, as do the gas station attendants in New Jersey (although Beth suggested that they might be doing it to get more money). So, yeah. Is there any particular reason for it?

And the random complaint of the day:
When a program has a list of fonts, I wish it would separate out the ones that don't use regular English letters.

Okay, I guess I'd better get ready to go.

maybe it's paranoia? like you go out with a half a tank and get caught out somewhere where there's no gas station in sight, and you're on empty, you'd be all, "i wish i topped off my tank!"

..i don't know. i'm the most paranoid person and i rarely ever have more than a quarter of a tank at a time. {g}

*shrug* Personally, I always top off my gas tank because I'm paranoid that the price of gas will rise again, and thus I am saving money. Of course, even it was an extreme jump, I'm at most saving myself 8 cents. I think I also do it because I tend to wait until my car is about to sputter to death before I fill up the tank, and that extra gas might help me make it to the gas station at the top of the next hill.

I guess I can see doing it for a sense of security. You know, like if you have a COMPLETELY full tank, rather than a just-mostly-full tank, it's more satisfying, even if it really makes very little difference.

i'm the most paranoid person and i rarely ever have more than a quarter of a tank at a time.

I'm actually the opposite (okay, not in regards to the paranoia {g}). I rarely have LESS than a quarter tank of gas. I've been with people when they almost ran out of gas, and it's a scary feeling, so I try to make sure I'll never be in that situation. About the only time I'll fill the tank less than all the way is when I'm just putting in enough to get to a place where gas is cheaper. {g}

I couldn't imagine being willing to cut it that close. Besides, if gas prices are going up, wouldn't it usually turn out to be cheaper to get gas as soon as possible, rather than waiting?

Yeah, but my brain seems to not grasp that. When I have plenty of gas left, I hope I can hold out until prices drop, but when I finally buy gas, I stock up as much as possible.

I think I also wait because it seems like I'm spending less on gas, even if in reality I'm just paying larger amounts at less frequent intervals. After all the months of 4 hour round-trip commutes, when I had to fill up my tank ever other day, I'm just so glad to not have to do that, that I try to remain as untethered to gas stations as possible.

Oh, I also know several people who drive large vehicles that get terrible gas mileage. They try to never fill up their trucks more than half-way. It's more cost-efficient to them because, even though they have to stop for gas more often, the weight of all that extra gas in their tank actually decreases their mileage noticeably. It's better for them to pay for the gas as they need it rather than to pay for the loss in efficiency of having to haul the extra gas along with them.

I thought about this post today because I was getting gas! And I thought... what I do is not exactly topping off, but I often squirt in a little extra after the automatic shut-off, just to get the price at a nice round number like 25.50 instead of 25.47. If you're paying in cash it's easier to pay, and with card it makes your math easier when you go to write it in your checkbook.

Yeah, that makes sense. I usually get gas in New Jersey, since it's usually about ten cents cheaper per gallon than in Pennsylvania. In New Jersey, you can't pump your own gas, but the attendants often will fill it so it comes out to a convenient number, which is cool.
