So, the Tori Amos show at the Tweeter Center in Camden was tonight, and [livejournal.com profile] bethje and I attended. Once we got there, Beth bought a necklace and poster at the merchandise table, and then we went to our seats. There were two openers, which might have bothered me if we had been standing, but since we weren't, it was no big deal. The first opener was called The Like, and was made up of three fairly young-looking girls. They were all right. I wasn't thrilled by them, but they didn't bore the crap out of me like a lot of openers do, so that was good.

The second opener was the Ditty Bops, and I actually quite enjoyed them. They had a unique, old-fashioned, and fun sound. I was pretty sure I had heard their last song, "Sister Kate," before, and I had. It was on the mix CD of covers that I got from [livejournal.com profile] revme. (The song is a cover, but it was the Ditty Bops' version that was on the mix.) Beth wanted to buy their album, but they wanted $20 for it, so she passed. I usually expect CD's to be less expensive at concerts than anywhere else, since they're eliminating the middleman and all, and this is sometimes the case. I think the venues might sometimes ask for a cut for themselves, though, and this was probably true tonight.

I'm not sure exactly what time Tori took the stage, but it wasn't long after the Ditty Bops had finished their set. She opened with "Original Sinsuality," and then went into some weird introduction that turned out to be for "Crucify." The setlist was good overall, and included a fair number of great songs that I hadn't heard live before, including "Icicle," "Mother," "Leather," and "Mr. Zebra." There were also some songs that I had heard live in the past, but was still excited to hear again, notably "Bells For Her" and "Horses." During her Piano Bar segment, she covered "Tiny Dancer" and "Somewhere Over The Rainbow," both of which she did quite well. On the other hand, I wasn't that thrilled to hear "Ruby Through The Looking Glass," which I didn't even recognize until she sang the title phrase. Aside from "Tombigbee," most of the Scarlet's Hidden Treasures struck me as kind of weak. They're the kind of Extended Jam-Type Songs that she was doing on To Venus and Back, only more so. I also think Tori didn't choose particularly strong songs to close the show. Her last pre-encore song was "The Beekeeper," and while I like the organ part that she plays when she does it live, it's definitely a bit on the long side. The encores were "Cloud On My Tongue," "Your Cloud," "Liquid Diamonds," and "Ribbons Undone," none of which are songs that I think work that well as encores. Oh, well.

Tori didn't talk that much tonight. She did say something about fairies, which I quoted (to the best of my memory) in the subject line. And speaking of fairies, today (according to The Road to Oz, anyway) is the birthday of Ozma, Queen of Oz.

I did this before, but I saw it on [livejournal.com profile] unclemilo's journal, and decided to try it again.
